After 40 nights.

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

I was listening to my copy of “the sisters live, 27/04/03(thanks, Lee ). During the track “Gimme Shelter, Von can be heard saying: “After forty nights. Still f**king gets it wrong.

Does anyone know what he was on about? I tried hearing a mistake in the song, but couldn’t hear anything out of the ordinary.

That's from Stockholm 1985, and I believe Eldritch refers to himself screwing up the lyrics. Don't remember in what way, however.

I love that bootleg (released as Trans Europe Excess).

They ***k up the timing, I think...I wasn't always sure if it was Eldritch indicating he ***ked up, or saying it was Hussey who came in at the wrong time with 'Rape....murder.....' and saying "After 40 nights...."

After 40 nights and his own admitted 'nearly a litre of gin a day', I'm surprised he could stand up half the time....some of those bootlegs, sounds like he's gonna tip over....

I always assumed that he was having a dig at either Hussey or Adams, but couldn't ever work out what they had got wrong.

He was on form that night though...."You don't know what it is yet chicken s**t".

Same here, along with Newcastle 85, it's probably my most often played boot.

The Stockholm show---it's also faster than most gigs that year, it seems. Like they just upped the Doktor's tempo a notch on every song--the whole bootleg rocks hard and loud. Floorshow comes booming out of the speakers.

Yeah, I originally thought he was directing the comment to Hussey...but they recover quickly. Good version of the song. I like 'Simmer down...' before Floorshow as the crowd screams...

That bootleg was so good we actually used some of the crowd noises on one of Rosetta Stone's 'live' b-sides. If you listen carefully to the song in question you can hear the girl in the crowd shout 'body electric' :) hehehe. It was funny at the time to think we could get away with it. And until today -we did! :)

On the cd 'Foundation Stones' as the track Deeper is building, you can just make out a girl scream.."Booooooody Eleeeectric"..faintly.But the crowd clapping and chanting is very distinctive. It was an American release so we got away with it, and like I said..until now..and those meddling kids eh Scooby?

Is this the same recording of Deeper that features as a bonus track on the Adrenaline Deluxe CD?

I knew they were fake live tracks but I didnt know they used Opud Dei as the source for the audience noise ha ha!!

If you think the doktor was up temp for that gig you are wrong more like the tape/lp whatever is not running at the correct speed.

Yeah I was thinking that was more likely.

That's funny as f*ck that, using Sisters crowd noise. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

I've remembered one of mrs fiend's stories from when she used to go to the Pink Parrot; she saw some student wide-boy go up to Porl King (who was sitting there chewing furiously away) and say "hey mate, d'you wanna buy some speed?" Porl turned, stared at him for about 40 seconds (still chewing) then deadpan, just said "No" and turned away.

You're likely right, but the slightly faster speed doesn't seem to fudge the boot much, the songs still sound good. It's ever so slight...is there a 'correct-speed' version of the show?

just had a listen to the rosetta track in question and yep, the crowd cheer at the start of the song is definitely recognisable...

the body electric thing is in there twice i think - the crowd noise is slowed down the first time around but then at the end of the song its played at normal speed.

- about 7 seconds in you can hear someone scream and then there's a shout for body electric    :notworthy:

- and right at the end of the song, about 5 mins into the track - after the song has actually finished, its there again - this time i think its the right speed and its more obviously a woman's voice
