Have you ever (erm) *seen* Cocteau Twins on stage ?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

What a fine collection of songs that is. :D
I was wondering if any of you saw them on stage, especially in the early days. Any fond recollection ? :?: 8)
Unfortunately, I never had the opporunity to see them live. I even missed them on their last tour in 96. :?

Kate Bush was better.
And you know that she's half crazy but that's why you want to be there.

Saw them in 1986, and although they were good live, I don't think they were necessarily a "live band" - certainly an all standing venue did not suit them. Techinically they were perfect; but I was used to waving my arms in the air and throwing showers of confetti, so I left the gig a little confused!

I see what you mean. They must have been awfully static. Was the live sound any different from the albums ?

@ Dark : give the Twins a serious try. They're so worth it.

I think Rosetta Stone is crap and the Beach Boys are pretty overrated.

Saw them a few times around 91-94. I thought they were f**king amazing to be frank, much better than the rest of the crap I was listening to back then.

I saw them in about 1984? 1985? In Chelmsford at The Chancellor Hall. All the time I lived there they were the only band that ever played there.

It was a disaster.

They did 3 or 4 songs, brilliantly as I recall, and then there was some equipment issues, either the monitors or Liz Fraser's mike or something. They kept trying for another song or two but she ended up all upset in tears and that was that.

So, yes, I've seen them, just!

Saw them a few times.

Brilliant band.
Superb, innovative vocalist.
Fantastic, dreamy guitars.

Live they were a bit on the dull side. It all sounded good but they all seem shy & don't exactly set the room alight. Liz stands in the middle trying to pull her fingers off & Robin either looks at the floor or turns his back on you.

Unfortunately, yes. My friend went cos she was a huge fan. If I'd known she was never gonna tour again, I'd have made more of an effort to accompany her.

Go into the corner and have a long hard think about what you just said! :P

OK, I guess Cocteau Twins would be a bit dull live, but DCD - if their live DVD is anything to go by, were not.

Perhaps time to share a moment from the McHeartlanders' journey down to Leeds in the Scotty's "taxi". Pat's mixtape was playing, and when Pearly Dewdrops Drops came on, Keith could be heard cooing "...tiny sparrows flying..." :notworthy:

Saw them at Manchester Apollo in the 80s. It was the first gig a mate's wife had been to. She took a box of Maltesers 'for the interval'...

'83 - Leeds Warehouse
'84 or '85 - Leeds Uni
'94 or '95 - Leeds T&C

Of these, the Warehouse was semi accidental; I used to read ZigZag and basically any band that was in that, especially ones that were on 4AD, would immediately go on my 'cool' list regardless of the fact that I'd never heard anything by them other than the odd snippet on Peel or Janice Lomg or whatever. Not exactly a disappointment but they weren'te nearly GOTH enoiugh for my liking ;)
Uni gig was better because I had more expecations of what I was going to see and hear.
T&C was OK but I'd sort of lost touch with the material as it was a few years after "Heaven or Las Vegas" was released.
They always had a pretty cool audience though; them and The Smiths both.
Something pithy.

I don't have any regret, I was only 2 at the time of her first - and last - tour. Judging from the Hammersmith Odeon VHS it was quite okay I guess... :P

@ boudicca and 9w9 : sure DCD was a fantastic live act. 8)

I saw them doing two tracks from Garlands on some Channel 4 music show late on a Monday might way back when the channel first started up. There were about five of them back then but it was all sub goth nonsense to my eyes and ears.
