Should there Be Censorship on Heartland?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Maybe we should remove 9W9 because his avatar may make someone uncomfortable - right Osama ?(James).

Also the reason there are subtle but noticable inaccuracies in the WWII German uniforms in almost all film / TV depictions of the war.

In our country, we allow the disgusting Nazi's to march and recruit. What they believe in is beyond atrocious, but we allow it. Do you understand the reason we allow it?

Personally I dont bother. I'm not that sensitive and I doubt 9w9 is a nazi after all.

I guess his rebellious child phase is over soon and we all can resume to the normal shift.

Because it's the First Amendment?

You have to remember though, you live in a country that has not had a Nazi government and does not have the impetus to have laws specifically designed at preventing that occuring again..

*deep breath*

ok, if we all love dictionary definitions so much, let's look at a more relevant one:

moderation

n 1: quality of being moderate and avoiding extremes [syn: moderateness] [ant: immoderation]

2: a change for the better [syn: easing, relief]

3: the trait of avoiding excesses [syn: temperance] [ant: intemperance]

4: the action of lessening in severity or intensity; "the object being control or moderation of economic depressions"

check that against censorship, compare and contrast the subtle differences. then go have alook at the way HL is run.

and if you still don't agree, you know where the logout button is.

f**k this. its too hot, and we all know where we stand on this anyway

i'm off home.

Truly you can't overlook the many Jews in America who are offended by American Nazis. Consider the reaons behind creating the first ammendment. Could it be, that suppression of thought , opinion, and idea leads to much worse?

Slight difference to being offended and having a government responsible for the death of around 6 million, plus god knows how many millions Slavs and other peoples, let alone wasting the best part of half a continent..

Slight difference I'm sure you'll concur..

I concur.

Though I still want to address the definition of censorship and the possibility of consisitency in censorship and who determines that consistnency - based on what rules?

I will go back to an earlier statement. I find sex between men disgusting. Does that necessarily make me a homophobic?

Should I be censored from expressing my view if I simply say - I find it disgusting. Or should I be censored if someone else is digusted by my disgust?

I would say, just don't watch it, if you dont like it. No one forces you. I would find it disgusting to watch sex between you and 9w9 too. Does that make me a Hetero-phobic?

Try not to get between men when they're having sex then. :innocent:

There is a fine line between censorship and moderation. But you gotta have some rules otherwise you'll get over run with trolls.

My point exactly.
And so, if I say or write that I find it disgusting - is that wrong? should I be censored? What if I say or write that I find it disgusting, or maybe I just post a throw-up smiley and someone is disgusted by post- should I be censored?

markfiend wrote:Yes. This board is not "public property". It is maintained and paid for by Quiff Boy. As a moderating team, we tend to take a light hand on censoring other people's posts, as we feel like it makes HL a nicer place.

On the other hand, we reserve the right to come down, and if necessary, come down hard, on behaviour that is inimical to the usually friendly nature of HL.
...and I for one do not have any problem with that.

Threads that I have seen locked have usually had one or two moderator's warnings before they are locked, so fairs fair.

We are in Quiffy's domain (imagine it being his front room) and surely he is entitled to have the final say so in his own place? We all knew the "rules" when we signed up.

In my opinion the censorship thing on Heartland is a storm in a tea cup.

Please cue me in, where did 9w9 get censored? If you're confused by the meaning of "censorship", just check a bit further up at QB's post.

Swastika and other occult symbols nazis used were not created by them and have meaning beyond being nazi-symbols. Banning symbols like that is kinda like declaring all knives illegal so that a potential killer might not be tempted to use one.

9W9 offended Motz when he posted a throw-up smiley after Motz posted the words, "Only if he has a cock." Motz posted those words in response his selection of two photos 9 put up on the now trashed "Which One Would You Choose" thread - one which was a group of overweight goth girls and the other was a rather effiminate looking young man.

If the thread was reinstated, you would be able to clearly form your own opinion. But - it has been censored.

That's old news.

Tell that to our governement. I agree, that a prohibition of Nazi symbols just make them interesting for the wrong kind of attention seekers.
But still, there're laws. In some countries it is illegal for women to drive a car, in my country Nazi symbols are illegal, thus making a page displaying Nazi symbols problematic to watch f.ex at work. Some admin may have filters.
