Bauhaus - Sometimes it pays to look

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I don’t follow what the Bauhaus get up to that much. Do they still release material (if so, is it any good?) or have they become a live band like TSOM?

When Bauhaus visited our little country a few months ago, mista Haskins was interviewed and he said they booked studio time to work on new material/album. Haven't heard an update on that one though...

Havn't got the foggiest whether Bauhaus are gonna do any new material and to be honest I hope they don't.But I'll say this, when I saw them in February this year it was the greatest gig I've been to since the almighty Nephilim in 1990.
What a good idea to reform the original band,do a tour playing all you're greatest songs in their original style, please all you're old fans and pocket s**t loads of cash.Does any one else kwno any other bands who would do well to pay attention to what the fans want?

Where are the few and far between getting the idea that Andrew isn't doing what the fans want? It seems that the malcontents are the ones who have popped out of nowhere expecting a nostalgia act, rather than those who have discovered the band retrospectively or stuck with them since Vision Thing - hardly the majority of the Girls' actual fanbase.

for a) above, please see b) dwindling attendence and 'oh, are they still going?' comments

out of nowhere is generally long term, die hard fans, who haven't c) had the opportunity, or d) couldn't be arsed to travel because of a) & b) above.

i really can't see how you can comment on how they were compared to how they are, as you weren't there to make the comparison?

the point was bauhaus, with a few exceptions, play a 'greatest hits' set and people like that, so hey get repeat and big attendence figures

the sisters are getting sadder and seeminlgy lazier as time passes, it doesn't mean i won't attend, i always do, but something different might be nice eh?

what an opportunity for viva las vegas, englishman in new york whatever. the point is there is nothing new, so requesting a few old classics isn't really that heinous a crime is it?

At no point did I make such a comparison.

i think your entire post did just that i'm afraid. why were you denegrating the long term fan and how can they not, collectivley, make up the majority of the fan base?

I think this is possibly a little knock at me.Fair enough I am new to this forum and fair enough I am indeed a malcontent but surely a forum is a place to air you're opinions both good and bad.As for me discovering the band retrospectively, you may be interested to find out that I have been a Sisters of mercy fan since 1985.And a great many of my friends feel as I do that Von has betrayed his core fans in a ridiculous attempt to be contemporary, something a band that have failed to release any new material for 13 years, for whatever reason, cannot be and are therefore a nostalgia act.p*ss or get off the pot!

But they're quite clearly contemporary. They've reworked their old songs and written quite a few more. Granted they probably should have been at this stage in about 97 or so, but they're far from a nostalgia act.

Again I'll argue that the new stuff is far from contemporary.I have a teenage daughter and despite giving her a musical grounding in music that could be broadly be termed goth. She and her friends prefer either the almost thrash metal of Cradle of filth or the pop/punk of Green day.Unfortunately this crap is what is considered contemporary rock today and neither catagory does The sisters, past or present, fit into. Its a sad fact that the music I/we love is considered passe and the only hope it has is the nostalgia market.Hussey understands this, and his new version of the M*ssion play mainly the hits or new tunes that hark back to the glory days,Even Carl McCoy has given up and has bought out an album that is distinctly 80's sounding and ,as i said initially Bauhaus play the hits and please the fans, after all that is what popular music is all about-Entertainment.

Although re-reading that it is also a fact that trad goth is possibly at a stage were its profile is higher than it has been for 15 years, but again its popularity is nostalgic.A lot of people want TSOM to sound like they did in the 80's.

Sorry Motz but no. "reorked old songs" do not a band contemporary make, however much we might like them. Imho the reworked old songs are the saddest things of the lot.

Sounds more like a jukebox than an actual living artist to me. :innocent:

Berayed?Absolutely. :von: was happy to take our money when it was cool and trendy to be "goth" then when it goes out of style he calls us nutters etc and denies ever having anything to do with it in the first place. We pay his bloody wages for god sake and should not get a second rate service.

To summarise: Adrenaline and that other one where rather good. If Andrew could do the same, it would be appreciated.

If he switches Crash And Burn with Floorshow, and Will I Dream? to Driven Like The Snow, and maybe adds in Adrenochrome or Black Planet, then I'll go.

As for Bauhaus, I can't really get on with their stuff 90% of the time. If I'm in the mood, then the In The Flat Field stuff works well for me, but that's about it.

Ewww.

Keep Crash and Burn and get rid of the Dr Jeep medley. And as much as I'd love DLTS, that's entirely unrealistic given that he's clearly stated that he'll never play it :|

Lights would be nice though :von:

C'mon Von's been slagging goffs since Floorshow

I too think they've become rather shady live over the last few years, however, it's got nowt to do with not turning into a chicken-in-a-basket karaoke Goff act. The problems are almost entirely technical, and by inference, financial.

The Sissies doing only 81-85 tracks with the present kit would be gash. And pointless. There are plently of daft nostalgia goff acts (among whom I don't include Bauhaus either by the way). Don't expect The Sisters to play that game, they may not be what they used to be, but they'll never sink that low.

You really must experience them live and then the circle will become complete. :D < Hows that Nick - Motz would you like to translate for Nick... :P
