Ok, who's got the moves???

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Avatars' have been fine around here before your time and mine for that but it get's a tad bit boring with who has the bestest or who is the grandest the way the threads have been going. Some people don't change their avatars on here and that within itself needs a million :notworthy: 's as it shows how stable they are in life or within these walls.

Your threads about look at me or that thingy that makes you tick about how people seem to you through their avatars has had HL on it's head for long enough now. The originality of people is appreciated with what they are posting not what the avatar is.

Now get your nose out of my butt because I don't like it. My avatar's are a certain part of me. It's nothing more or less.

Oh and a new avatar for 9w9:

hmmm

*thinks*

do i need to moderate this thread?

or is that censorship? and if so, do i just need to leave it while you all bash someone?

hmmm

on one hand this thread serves as a good example of why myself and the rest of the team need to do what we do. ie: to stop things getting ugly.

on the other hand, i've had it pointed out to me in no uncertain terms you all seem to think you're big and ugly enough to look after yourself and that my active involvement is neither desired, nor required... ;)

nah, i'm off on holiday soon - so natural selection can run its course.

now i'm just not sure exactly which little epithet to end my post on. there's quite a choice:

there's the standard "play nice!"

it would be rather cliched to say "you reap what you sow"

or what about "live by the sword, die by the sword"?

or how about "this one's going to run and run"?

or maybe just the old favourite "told you so"?

or even, and this quite radical, say nothing? maybe i just walk away into the sunset (or at least the jet2 terminal at manchester airport ) whistling the theme tune from the professionals?

dear oh dear. it really is all fun and games until someone loses and eye isnt it?

Anyway, I hereby abstain from any avatar based shennanigans...

I do not need a 200x200 pixel effort to behave like a dick extension..

the problem is that if left these things dont usually die out. threads get our of control, grudges are formed and petty digs & point-scoring spill out onto other threads... :?

experience suggests that when "nipped in the bud" these things usually just "go away".

forcing someone to count to the metaphorical ten by moderating a thread is by and large a technique proven to be successful over 4+ years...

granted, you always get one or two nutters who can't leave it alone, and have to carry it on whenever they can, wherever they can, but all you can do is "warn" these people, and then if they continue to ignore the "rules" of the community, and the unwritten code(s) of conduct one expects intelligent & mature adults to adhere to, well then we have a case for "taking action", whatever that may be. usually a sharp word suffices, but the case of the more extreme nutters HL has been graced with in the dim and distant past, a ban or account deletion is the only course of action.

but if we have done our job correctly, and laid the formal paper trail of polite requests, "warnings" etc, then they cant turn around and say they didnt know they were being c**ts.

thankfully HL has a much lower % of these than would be expected, given our membership numbers :)

consistency & accountability, basically.

its like anywhere - like work for example. if the person who sets out your rules and regulations is consistent, then you feel safe & secure. you know the boundaries, you know what to expect if you stay within them, and you also know what to expect should you cross them.

thats what helps create a stable & harmonious environment - and thats why HL is what it is.

trust me. i've done a lot of reading up on this stuff, and keeping this place going for 4 and a half years has taught me some valuable lessons.

but that is an aside... and a very old can of worms that i am not prepared to re-open.

as you were, lemmings. ;D :innocent:

Just lock this thread up, will you. It has no relevance whatsoever, and it is not because this section is called 'general chat' that you have the right to flood it with irrelevant posting.

Maybe we can start a new section 'general s**t'? Oh no, that's here already. It's called the 'trashbin'.

I still give 9w9 the benefit of the doubt (and yes thanks for the current avatar) but we don't need this kind of 'attention seeker' (Rhombus TM) threads.
One thread about avatars is more than enough, and starting the same discussion over and over again in three or four different threads is called 'flooding' and is bad manners in the Netiquette book.

Also understand 9w9 that your are stepping on toes sometimes, but always under the flag of 'come on people, this was only a joke'. If people don't like what you do and say so, don't whine about it, just accept and LET IT REST.

It's summer, it's warm and there is no need for heated debates on HL or my laptop will melt.
