Good to see Scotland is as friendly as ever...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

exactly.. just that perhaps the lack of an organised racist party in Scotland means that it looks a lot better in comparison....

I think we are possibly less racist than England (although I'm well aware of the irony of saying "It's you bloody Southern cnuts that are prejudiced!") when it comes to the issue of immigration and asylum, perhaps an upside of having a declining population.

When it comes to England, though, things are very different and it's sad - but maybe inevitable for a nation which has its real government several hundred miles outside its borders. The country's psyche will always have a chip on its shoulder as long as we have someone to blame.

Personally I think its the fact that Scotland is afflicted with both sectarianism (in certain areas) and racism that makes the matter worse..

Worst of my experiences was with one of my first girlfriends up there, whose father was both anti-English and Protestant, which meant I didn't go down too well with him being half-English and totally non-denominational.. only thing that could have been worse is if I had been half-caste or coloured too..

Racism in Scotland though, to me anyway, does appear a bit more insidious and sometimes isn't given proper treatment as such.. Also it definitely does appear to get worse the lower down the strata of society you travel - which is most likely the case no matter where you are..

Though as you rightly say, what do you expect from a country with no proper government and one that's been properly shafted by its rulers hundreds of miles away.

Isn't that in the context of Rangers being known as a Protestant team, and all the codswallop that goes with being such in Scotland/Northern Ireland, and not that they are 'as one' with the English.

The only hassle I ever had, being English in Scotland, was in Inverness when I was accosted by a 'teuchter bast', who didn't realise that I was with a group of Hibees. The shirt I was wearing should of given it away though. All he could hear was my accent and that apparently was enough to get him going.

I really had no idea this kind of thing went on between England and Scotland. To call it racism is interesting too because I never thought of the two countries as two different races. Why would anyone punch a child because of his shirt???

It's not common, @rseholes need no creed, colour or nationality, they will suck @rse regardless.

There has always been a rivalry between the two countries but for the most part it is light hearted.

I'm a MacHeartlander that has lived in England for the last 5 years and I have never been racially abused.

I'm sure others, as posted in this thread, have suffered worse but again that is due to @rseholes and you get them anywhere....

I must agree with you there Stephen, we lived in Derbyshire, Buxton, for five years, we had a Great time and would (and nearly did just before Christmas) move to England in a second, I got, and gave, nothing but light hearted banter all the time we were there.
I still like seeing England being beat at sports because of the rivalry, like I enjoy Hi....Hi......Hib.....no, still can't say the word  being gubbed , like Spurs fans like seeing Chelsea beaten, there no point in cheering on your rivals :urff:

And when the English misbehave , the media sticks the boot in big time, and quite rightly. But attacking a disabled man and a seven year old is pretty damn low..
