I read that the "first" Sisterhood played a few live shows, are there any recordings of this?

Whiskey In The Jar is actually a Thin Lizzy song although the cover/label does not indicate this. The version on this single was not performed by the Sisters, it may have been performed by The m*****n, possibly when they were playing under the name The Sisterhood.

Whiskey In The Jar isn't actually a Thin Lizzy song, it's a traditional tune

If you're looking for any special "Sisterhood" songs you'll be disappointed. They're exactly the same as other M!ssion gigs of that period.robertzombie wrote:I read that the "first" Sisterhood played a few live shows, are there any recordings of this?
Wayne used to sing bits of Marian during Shelter From The Storm. I've some MP3 sourced stuff, so if the mods are willing I may be inclined to Share that particular moment.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Did they perform songs like "Garden Of Delight" and "Dance On Glass" the 'sisters' way, or had they already ruined them by then?
Consider them Mauled by the Huss-monster.
Like Dan said, they're pretty much what you'd expect from an early Mishoon gig. The Marian bit is the only real feature of note. If you've heard the First Chapter LP, you'll have a good idea of what to expect. I'll have a listen later on today and see if there's any interesting on-stage comments/etc, though.

Considering they were the ones playing those songs in the "Sisters" demos, I fail to see how they can be considered to be playing them in a "ruined" way.robertzombie wrote:Did they perform songs like "Garden Of Delight" and "Dance On Glass" the 'sisters' way, or had they already ruined them by then?
Dance On Glass is a completely different song to the Black Planet-based "saints and martyrs" song, and the final m*****n versions of Serpent's Kiss and Garden Of Delight are played the same way as the demos, but certainly improved. At least Garden Of Delight doesn't have Eldritch moaning his way through a song that he should have sung an octave higher.
I can't say I'm a great fan of the LP version of Garden Of Delight, unfortunately.

Serpent's Kiss sounds identical to the "instrumental sisters demo." Are there any versions with lyrics.
There is a Hussey Sisters demo for Garden which sounds great, I don't understand why they changed the music for the Mish version when Hussey was the one who wrote it.

It's quite simple really. Under Andrew's guiding hand with the Doktor underpinning them, they sounded nice. With Hussbag at the reigns and, horror of all horrors, a real drummer, they didn't.Dark wrote:Considering they were the ones playing those songs in the "Sisters" demos, I fail to see how they can be considered to be playing them in a "ruined" way.robertzombie wrote:Did they perform songs like "Garden Of Delight" and "Dance On Glass" the 'sisters' way, or had they already ruined them by then?

Well, listening to the single version, it doesn't sound radically different.robertzombie wrote:Serpent's Kiss sounds identical to the "instrumental sisters demo." Are there any versions with lyrics.

On the LP it's orchestral and I don't really like it, but the single version (found on Anthology and The First Chapter (I think)) is close enough to the Sisters demo.

coming back to whiskey in the jar
"Whiskey in the Jar" is a famous Irish traditional song about an Irish highwayman (usually in the Kerry mountains), who is betrayed by his wife or lover. It is one of the most widely performed traditional Irish songs, and has been recorded by groups such as the Dubliners, The Pogues, Peter, Paul and Mary, the Poxy Boggards and The Limeliters. It was also given a rock veneer by Irish rock band Thin Lizzy, with iconic lead singer Phil Lynott in 1973. Thin Lizzy's version has since been covered by Pulp (1997), Ernies, Smokie, Metallica (1998) and Belle & Sebastian (2006). Jerry Garcia (of the Grateful Dead) and David Grisman recorded a bluegrass cover of this song together.
