This is known in goth/alternative DJ speak as "The Closer Syndrome".So called because of the amount of unimaginative nobheads that come up to you during an evening and ask "Have you got that NIN track, you know I wanna f**k you like an animal?".Usually "For my girlfriend".
Now I used to really like NIN's Closer but I've now heard it/played it so many times,I now hate it with a f**king vengeance.
The same can be said for "She sells sanctuary" and "Temple of love 92".Go to any rock night and ask for any goth, guarenteed you will get those two and those two only,if any at all.
Many goth DJ's are as guilty as the punters. If I ask for some Nephilim the answer will always be "Got Preacher man somewhere I think".I f**king hate Preacher man,but feel obliged to dance to it and smile as the unimaginative twit DJ gives me the thumbs up sign.
Any of you lot got any tracks you really hate due to serious overplay by bands you normally love?

Round here it was either Preacher man or Moonchild. I once had the guts to play the whole Dead but dreaming/For her light/etc. These electro heads were maaaaad !
Fcuk them, I couldn't stand some of their macho electro sh!t.
I also seem to remember that the only Skinny Puppy track we could hear was Assimilate. Smothered hope saw the light of day from time to time, and that was about it.

But yes, Bill, It's the same dull headache I get from the 'goth' alternative' pap that goes onto them comilations cd's.
And I mean all of them.
My fellow director here got a Rock Anthems cd from his wife last week, with Tears For Fears 'Shout' on it !!
They all bug me just the same...
...I remember the rock nights at the Mayfair in newcastle, you had to dance to Preacher/TOL/Godstar, in case it was the only chance you had all night...and by dance I mean shuffle around waving your arms around like we did then., looking at the floor.
...mmmmmmmmmMMMMMM!....

Gives me bad flashbacks to the dodgy goth/indie nightclub in Irvine I used to frequent of a Saturday night from the age of 15-18...
It was the same fricking tunes every week almost, and they could only play one Pixies song - "Here comes your man" - which really didn't make me interested in listening to any more of the band's stuff.. until a friend of mine persuaded me to listen to Trompe Le Monde.. feck me! It was like a different band!
Mind you, the best thing I ever went to for strange requests was Rock world in Manchester when they did their all-nighters on a Friday.. I have a vague recollection of an amphetamine fuelled night culminating with Body Electric and Ace of Spades back to back, on my request, at about five in the morning... to hell with sleep!

I think this is more commonly known as The "Silver Machine" syndrome.

I'd kill for Digital at my local hang-out. They played Transmission once. I think I might have wept.

That reminds me, Quiffy.. Ace Of Spades. I really don't like that song. Bomber, I'm So Bad Baby I Don't Care, R.A.M.O.N.E.S., whatever, they're great. But Ace Of Spades is just repeated everywhere.
And for what it's worth, Assimilate is the only SP song I've heard. Still feckin' awesome..
