bus station loonies sisters cover

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Is there a kind soul out there willing to upload the one and only good track from the First & Last & Forever tribute cd: Black Planet by Automatic Head Detonator...

I would really love to hear it again as I've always liked their version of this song. I used to own that tribute cd, but sold it years ago because I needed the money (and except for this track it was terrible) and back then cd-writers were non-existant :innocent:

Thanx :notworthy:

I think it's wonderful.

The intro is v familiar sounding.

Tindersticks "A Marriage Made In Heaven" anyone?
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Man I respect you big time ! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
Hey, thanks Badlander!

I'm only too happy for people to think what we do is crap - we're a band and as such don't have the given right to be adored (which many seem to think they have). We thrive on being loved OR hated... it's sure better than being ignored - and proof of that is this discussion! I appreciate EVERYTHING people have said about our appalling cover of an amazing song... I think The 'Loonies are dreadful, but a whole lot of fun (that's why we're still at it, I s'pose!).
Cheers again for everyone taking the time to comment about our nonsense (it makes me feel like I'm in a REAL band).
love'n'laughs,

Chris Wheelie

Thank YOU lachert!
And thanks for passing on our version!! Knowing you've made someone smile is my reason for being a Loony... Time for another..??? Well, after having read through what people have said, I think you're right!! We're recording a new album this Autumn ('06) and are already planning on murdering Punishment of Luxury's "Puppet Life", but are very open to requests (including "give up", "**** off" and "die").
Love'n'Laughs,
Chris ;D

@ A Bus Station Loony : do you realize you've just posted the same message three times in a row ? :innocent: :P

Anyway, I'm curious to know whether you've got any other f**ked up cover up your sleeve. I guess there are two sorts of good covers : one is born out of respect and the other is born out of creativity, a strong sense of humour, etc. Bauhaus' Ziggy Stardust would be an example of the former, most Sissies covers would be examples of the later.
At least your version of ToL isn't something I would expect. Not your ordinary "I'm darker than thou, darker than dark" fcuking Sisters tribute album kind of cover for sure ! :urff:

Rest assured I don't like that kind of cover either. ;D
I'd end this moment to be with you

Cheers Badlander!
I know, I have a tendancy to go on and on (plus, I kept being told my message hadn't been sent - they fibbed!!). Really, cover versions are a tricky subject to tackle. It's like re-makes of movies... if the original is a classic, what's the point in making it again? With music, I believe there IS more of a point, especially if a band/artist injects their won style into the interpretation. I'd like to believe our mess of "Temple of Love" came from both respect AND humour... though ironically, to some, the end result reflected neither! I would never wish to tackle a cover of a song I didn't like in the first place (that would be difficult, as the passion would be lacking, for me, at least). But nor would I attempt to emulate the original version, having neither the talent nor the desire.
But, I have to accept that The Bus Station Loonies did begin life as a covers band, with a particular aim to playing punked-up versions of non-punk songs and non-punk versions of punk songs. Even we've had one or two of our original compositions covered... it's always flattering, however bad you might believe them to be!
I'm really glad you say our version was unexpected, even if you don't like it (and that I truly understand).
The only cover versions we have planned for recording are PUNISHMENT OF LUXURY "Puppet Life" (fairly straight cover musically, but with re-written lyrics), UK SUBS "Down on the Farm" (now that one IS purely out of respect) and SCAFFOLD "Lily the Pink". I do perform a jolly pub piano version of JOY DIVISION "Love Will Tear Us Apart", as my solo act 'Harakiri Karaoke' (cheesy keyboards). It's very upbeat and singalong and quite, quite removed from the original, which I also adore. So, there again, hopefully respect AND humour (and creativity? Don't think I'm that talented - it took me ages to work out though!). No one has got upset about that so far, and I hope they don't. Sorry, I've rambled on a bit there. Hope this one doesn't get posted thrice!
Thanks for getting to me, really appreciate it.
Chris :D
