the sisters' black october / hawkwind's black september?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

we all know von's love of classic 70s rock - and the fact that the sisters' some-time alter ago "the speed kings" took the name from a deep purple track - but what about this one?

ignoring the obvious 9/11 references (:o), do we think that von might have borrowed the title for the sisters' black october tour from hawkwind's lyric?

Also very Von-ish.

Von would certainly have been aware of the 'Wind right from the start, being a Motorhead fan, so it's beyond the realms of possibility at all.

sounds about right mr quiffy.

didnt mr adams once fess up to pinching several of the early sisters basslines from uriah heap tunes?

i also recall that the 'circle with a circle cut out of it ' logo from the black october tour was also 'borrowed' from the design on the badges worn by bus conductors in the leeds municipal area at the time.

tickets please.

i didnt know that :o

ta :notworthy:
The Black September Organization (BSO) was a Palestinian terror group, founded in 1970. The group's name came from the conflict known as Black September...The BSO is best known for the kidnap and murder of 11 Israeli athletes, and the murder of a German police officer, during the September 1972 attack on the Olympic Village in Munich, Germany, which became known as the Munich massacre.
blimey :o
September 1970 is known as the Black September in Arab history and sometimes is referred to as the "era of regrettable events". It was a month when Hashemite King Hussein of Jordan moved to quash an attempt by Palestinian organizations to overthrow his monarchy. The violence resulted in heavy civilian Palestinian casualties. Armed conflict lasted until July 1971 with the expulsion of the PLO and thousands of Palestinians to Lebanon.

And while we're on the subject...

I was just listening to In Search Of Space, and having a look through The Hawkwind Log (even barmier than the booklet that comes with Space Ritual!) when I saw a drawing that looks suspiciously like the cover of the Return To Arkham bootleg.

As soon as I get my scanner working again, y'know.

I think Calvert was likening the 70's Black September movement with the ancient muslim sect "The Hashashin".Pretty prophetic stuff in the light of 11th September 2001.

October is usually associated with Black History month - the blacks where an oppressed race, so where the Goths. Goths traditionally wear black - it's dark at night , almost Black. It all makes sense. The tour was called Black October 'cos it where Black History month!! So maybe underneath all that hair n glasses persona, Eldritch is actually an African-American called Leroy Umbongo -Katanga from 162nd Street Harlem, New York..Yo !!

Bollocks! Ramone
It is all about the Black September movement, I never thought to mention it as I thought it was common knowledge, seems not.

I don't get it. The tour was in October and the Sisters wore black. It's sometimes that simple, isn't it?

Shave his beard off,a bit of the old Al Jolson paint, and Hey Presto-Errol Brown of Hot chocolate.
"Emma" is a dead give-a-way.

Or maybe in 1985......
