The gatefold sleeve of Last Magician (26 copies only) was sold only at a Sisters convention held at Leeds Astoria (sometime in the early 90's I guess), although it's probably been sold other places. I could've got one fairly cheaply, but I had the normal version anyway, and I can't see the point of collecting multiple versions of unofficial releases. It's a waste of time and money.

it depends from the bootleg. the palazzograssi bootlegs are all of excellent
quality, but the truth is there are some really s**** bootlegs
i ll go for the "live at the brixton ace". 4 different covers
and god knows how many different vinyl colours
and the sound is awfull....

I just want to hear the recordings, I couldn't give a sh*t what format it's on.

I value the tapes way more than the vinyl for the simple reason that most of the cd's and vinyl are sourced from the tapes, and the tapes are often better quality whereas the vinyl is usually not the complete gig and usually has surface noise. Also some of the cd's people make have gaps and clicks between tracks as most people haven't a clue how to do it properly. I'm transferring my tapes to cd but it takes a long time.

Found a strange version of Halloween´s Day bootleg for some months ago,
The record came in a black box with just the text Halloween´s Day on the box in silver.
the box also contained beside the album 7 b/w picks from 84, a tape with the show from the lyceum on it and a copy the tour dates for black october.
Dunno if this box is done afterwards by someone, but I believe so.

What are you guys taling about???
Sisters highlight in collection are OFFICIAL recordings!!!

If I decided to:
- Use an old picture of the band or use the Sisters logo for artwork
- Create a bad title
- Call my local production company to make 'cool' colored records or CD and ask to make a limited pressing of 200-300.

... do you think the record will be rare and worth anything???

In my opinion, ALL bootlegs or counterfeit records and CDs are a waste of money, anybody can create their own professional looking bootleg with some $. Gathering records and CDs from around the world and trying to get the Test Pressings are much more worth the money. I much prefer having my 400 official recordings than 400 bootlegs. :-)

However, I agree with Dan, for bootlegs the important the recording, who cares about the format.

Totally agree! And why the hell should you pay for bootlegs when you just have to trawl the net to find them. It can take a little while, but if you know where to look you can find quite a lot. For example, I've managed to pick up about 20 live shows in the past 3 months from trading online and using Soulseek. Didn't cost me a penny.

Haha, yes, that's what I've always thought. It's bad enough that some of them get the song titles wrong, but some of them have horrible horrible titles, probably the worst bootleg title I ever saw was "Populas has mass appeal". And yes, that's exactly how it was spelt.

very few official recording are high valuable, and I dont mean Damage or Body......there're a lot of old bootlegs vinyls that are much more valuable than original items, and I dont mean Halloween or so but records that never come out or done in very small quantity and kept in warehouse for years. Every big collector (and I mean BIG) got few very rare or one off items in the collection, Y got few, Robin got few, the italian guy also few,
but the really essence are the rare bootlegs stuffs that make big a collection. On ebay original stuffs rise up with high ammount but very few bids of always same people. Bootlegs stuffs rise up very high prices with a lot of different bids. This because everyones want have it. A Sisters collection without a good bootleg section isn't a big collection

Dan, I think the same regard a good live tape collection but it's a no sense without a bootlegs vinyls support

I disagree. Bootleg vinyl of a concert is almost always edited, and never sounds as good as a good quality tape (or minidisc/dat) source. I'm a fan of the Sisters of Mercy, so its the music I care about, not some tatty bootleg someone's made themselves in some backroom. Sure, some of them have nice covers and are very well made, but they're not an official release so I don't care about them. I do have a small amount of bootleg vinyl, but only because that was the only source for that recording at that time, for example I bought Speed Kings the day it came out from a certain shop in Leeds. (Incidentally I just saw Speed Kings sell on ebay for £5.) If it'd have been available on tape I'd have got that instead as it'd have been more complete (not chopped into 4 pieces to fit on vinyl). Once I had it I definitely wasn't gonna go out and buy it again in green, red, blue, puke coloured vinyl. I already have it once, don't need another which will sound exactly the same when played on my stereo.

please please slow down a bit

download its easy and free and thats good
burn cd-rt its easy and free and thats good
double tape its easy and free and thats good

bootlegs vinyl with delux cover is another things and not very easy to do this days. all the old boot (1984-89) are all pretty nice and valuable
after there was a lot of crappy repress and no sense (I agree with you Dan). I remeber when the first run of Psychedelic session was released : I had listen it for 5 days without stop with a heartseek

I'm agreeing with Dan here, completely.
Paying loads of cash for bootleg just doesn't make sense to me. For the cost of a few CDRs and and postage to the Isle Of Man/Sydney/Sweden/etc I've managed to get myself a pretty large collection of live gigs.

If you must spend large amounts of cash on Sisters stuff do what Y does, I can at least see the logic in owning official releases.

Record fairs used to be a great source of bootleg vinyl and cd's, but now they've been struck down by the curse of the cd-r.

I used to go to record fairs in Leeds regularly, as it was a good source for me to get some good bootleg cd's or tapes, in fact, it was a record fair in Leeds where I bought my first Sisters bootleg tape (Blackburn'85), back in sept'85.

But now, there's loads of people selling home-made cd-r's. Most of them are badly made (clicks or gaps between tracks), the cover cut out and folded clumsily, etc... Now I wouldn't mind if they were selling them for around £4, but the CHEEKY B*STARDS are selling them for the same price as the "proper" bootleg cd's, and that's just WRONG. There's someone who specialises in the Sisters too, and I bet he makes a fair bit of money by selling his cd's for around £22 for a gig on 2 cd's. For that price I could buy a bunch of cd's and do a trade and get a whole TOUR. I'm all for trading but what they're doing at the record fairs now is just not on. Chairman Bux, if you're reading, send along a representative to the next record fair will ya.

Oh, and somehow I'm on some mailing list (snail mail) where I keep getting someone offering to sell me "ultra rare" Pink Floyd cd's at £7 a pop (£14 for doubles). I look down the list, and it's all stuff I downloaded in the last few months!

i'd rather be "a fan" than "a collector" ;)

it's the fans that keep a band going, not the collectors... fans finance a band where as collectors merely finance second hand record shops and those shadey mercenary types that record gigs, package them up (badly) and then sell them on to poor suckers on ebay... (or even worse, they freely download other people's mp3s of gigs and sell THEM on! cheeky c*nts - the lowest of the low  )

what s the difference between a fan and a collector? there isn t, in the end all that counts is how much you love the band not in what format you have a concert.
but let me tell my story, i live in Greece, in the early 90 s thevinyl bootlegs were the only way to find a sisters concert. i wish every time i went to a record shop or a record fair i could find a dozen tapes from various gigs, but at that time your only chance was a vinyl bootleg and that s why i love them. won t forget the day i found "stranger" on red vinyl. one of my first bootlegs :D
the older fans among you could go to gigs, could buy tapes,t-shirts,posters
you lucky b********, so you don t care about formats, but i do and that s
why for me you can t compare a cd with a vinyl bootleg. ;D
