help with .avi files

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I plan to put a bunch of .avi files from digital cameras on a DVD. Nothing fancy, just for the family. Is there any way to rotate a clip and save it? What do you recommend to combine multiple clips into one file? What do you use to convert .avi files to a DVD with menu?

http://www.virtualdub.org/ free video editing program - there is an option to rotate in the filters you can apply to a clip (as well as loads of other fancy stuff)

What do you recommend to combine multiple clips into one file?
virtualdub again - you can cut, copy and paste clips

What do you use to convert .avi files to a DVD with menu?
As weebleswobble says, Nero is best:
www.nero.com

And finally, the best site for an overview is:
