Whitby G*th Weekend

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

So, who is going? Is it an event that many forum members are interested in?

The line up can be found at http://wgw.topmum.co.uk/

£39.. sounds good, and I wouldn't mind seeing The Damned again. But f**k knows where I'd stay.

Once I'm free of parental restrictions in 2 years, I'll probably share a cabin with some alt.gothic people who go.

I shall not be in Whitby and seeing the line up I'm bloody glad.Apart from the Damned(and they're hardly goth),It looks like its turned into Infest. No wonder everyone stands in the foyer with bollocks like that lot playing.Actually I'd like to see XPQ21 but not at Whitby.
Some f*cking Goth festival.
In fact I don't think anyone I know that went Last April went anywhere near the Spa pavillion.
Hopefully We'll be going next April, but one things for sure,I ain't gonna waste £40 to stand in a packed foyer admiring middle aged school teachers' pirate outfits.
Whitby could be so brilliant if they just had a couple of biggish name bands and DJ's for the rest of the time, instead of a load of second rate cak and some has-been bands that you can go and see at "The Robin 2" in Bilston for a tenner every couple of months.

Also, this is very interesting (I have my ticket)

They avoid the g word, so maybe a sisters headline in the future (its gonna be annual).

Feel free to discuss. The lineup is fab as. But at least another good event is screaming is birthing breaths.

It will be my first time seeing the army, I am very exited.

I'd be happy to start a book on :von: turning up at the Whitby G***-Fest - although with odds of 13,000,000,000 to 1 on I don't know how many of my fellow HLers would be up for some of this action. Expressed in mathematical terms, I belive the equation might look something like

{Heads/Pikes} Venue

Given the current line-up, a better use for your money might be buying shares of UK Pikes & Lances Plc...

I mean the sissies may play the lost playground in the next few years as the healine is 'a celebration of alternitive music' with plenty of non goth bands on the list. The sisters would sooner put there own heads on pikes than play whitby I think...

I don't know if any of the Sisters would have a huge problem with playing at a goth event, aside from Eldritch.

Were it not for :von:'s apparent dislike for things French, I can see him paraphrasing de Gaulle: "Les Sisters - c'est moi!"

whilst i happily paid that for gene loves jezebel headline the friday a year or so back (the whole event over-sold so we didnt even get in on the saturday to see In The Nursery! not that we were really bothered about them though), i certainly wouldnt pay that much for the damned :urff:

the whole weekend is a good crack, and there's much fun to be had sat outside one of the many hostelries in whitby and laughing at the passers by :o  ;)

have they sorted out the over-selling of tickets now then? :urff:

You and me both.

Apparently they've had to cut the capacity by 300 due to the fire brigade inspection officer(Or something like that) declaring that as the foyer of the spa was dangerously overcrowded while the room where the bands play was almost empty.
That was the April before last(Possibly the one you didn't get into Quiffy).I was sat in the Met pissing myself at all the pratts that had bought tickets and couldn't get in,who then had to shell out another fiver to get into the Met!!!!

I'd seen that and would love to go - but sadly it clashes with our week in Barcelona. DAMMIT!!!!!

But as you say, the lineup is excellent - a decent mix of big names and not so well known bands, and a decent mix of genres. What more could you ask for?

I have never been to a Whitby Goth Weekend and I don't intend to start now.

As someone on here once said, "Goth, but not that kind of goth."

It isn't compulsary to dress as a pirate or Jack the ripper. As long as you keep away from the Spa pavillion (the pose fest) it is a brilliant weekend.....Honest.

I would love to go. Looks like it could be lots of fun. Sadly though I have no chance what so ever of getting to it.

*leaps* I'm going! With a woman from a pagan forum I frequent. It's really thanks to her I'm going at all. I can't buy anything via internet ( no credit or debit card ) so she offered to get my ticket for me, as she lives in London and can buy them directly from some shop or other. We're meeting at York and then bus-ing it to Whitby. I will be skint when I'm there, but I've never been able to go before, and may not be able to go again so I'll just enjoy the experience.
Captain Ahab rushed in, his craziness all unzipped......

Give me a wave, Thorn, I'll be there Wednesday to Tuesday.

Won't be doing the Spa, the only band I'd want to see is The Clan, and as Bill said, it's a fine weekend without it.

Will try and keep HL updated as I go on, HST-style. "We can't stop here - this is batlover country!"
