stylus guide to goth

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I think that clip is from a TSOM television special made in the 1980s for MTV, in which they had Von introduce a couple of clips from The Albert Hall show. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Nah, it's from a WEA promo Press Conference back in 1985. Basically to showcase new or upcoming bands on the label, to journalists (and probably WEA's own employees and board of directors).

File under novelty Record Label Promo thang

The beard is interesting though. I always though the beard/hat/coat combo only existed for the Sisterhood era (pretty obvious really, as he's speaking about RAH retrospectively), so this looks like it may be genuine gold in terms of being a clip from just about immediately pre-split.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

A definatly good read. :notworthy:

I like that the holy trinity are acknowleged as belonging together. They are my favourate bands in the genre by far. Sissies, Mish, Nephs. The Nephs were from leeds?

But the whole thing is a great article.

cheers Stylus zine. :D

A couple of fans, even. The "Adrenochrome" bit and the Top 10 were me. The "Some Kind of Stranger" piece was by my esteemed partner-in-crime, who also wrote large (in fact, the largest) chunks of the "Goth" guide.

Thanks very much for the kind words! I originally missed this thread and posted a shameful piece of self-promotion in the Sisters forum instead - luckily a kindly soul directed me in here.

Regarding the youtube clip - I wondered where that intro had come from myself. In truth I just raided the site for a clip I felt fit most effectively!

It seems that the Nephs were actually from Stevenage and not Leeds *cough* ... um, by the power of fudging I will claim that they're part of the same scene and probably played in Leeds a few times. And. Err. Ok, that was a bit of a mistake :D

I've seen an extended clip of the Eldritch intro, think he says sumit like 'In the Merry Merry Month of June' (talkin' about the Wake gig)

It be be not PISH!

Rosetta Stone! London After Midnight! Inkubbus Sukkubus! Star Industry! (ok, a bit more obscure there, but they toured with the sisters, and cite them as a major influence while not copying them, anyone that doesn't know them should check them out)

Nosferatu!...ahem, ok I'll get my cloak.
