Possible reading material

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Hello all. I'm probably entirely unfamiliar to you due to my policy of serial lurking. I've posted a handful of times but much prefer soaking in the atmosphere and getting excited whenever little Sisters news tidbits appear.

Anyway! Self-justification is not my aim. In between waiting for a new Sisters album (amongst other things), I churn out words for an online publication called Stylus. As it happens, we're in the middle of a "Goth" week (no, wait, hear me out!)

We all know how much that nice Mr. Eldritch loves that word. It was with such things in mind that we hoped to re-assess the bands which fell beneath this cursed term--as well as mess around and make silly jokes--when we wrote the article. Enough waffling actually, here's the whole shebang (it's a bit of an epic)

Intro/Part One wonders whether we can pin "Goth" on Joy Division, Siouxsie or The Cure.

Part Two deals with Bauhaus and chums.

Part Three is the Batcave mob.

Part Four (that would be me) features everything(?) Leeds.

Part Five will come tomorrow - conclusions and a big fat collection of key albums (with blurbs).

We probably got a couple of things wrong (after all, it was a lot of words - and I was about five years old in the 80s), but we've tried to be accurate. No doubt we'll have suggested things you don't agree with, but we've tried to be interesting and funny.

Ahhh ... I'm rambling on again. Hopefully you guys will find some parts you enjoy! I also hope this "fits" in the Sisters Chat forum.

Might want to check out the sexy "cover" too: http://www.stylusmagazine.com

Urg, this has come out a bit like a sales pitch. We're not selling anything! (though the site has a fair few adverts on it - sorry about that) Actually I guess that's a lie, as I'm "selling" the words. They're good words though, I think. And they're free ...

... Even if they do come from a collective of Pond Scum Music Journos ;)

We saw the stuff - clickitty
Seems to have been well received (I liked it, anyway), looking forward to reading new stuff from the Brooklyn annex of The Batcave.
Cheers - makes a change to read something about the genre that is refreshingly irreverant, as opposed to the shoe-gazing bollocks that is normally churned out. :notworthy:

Top Man, give this the time it deserves over the weekend.

Not all Music Journos are Pond Scum, the rest are Fuds

Whoops - I should have known that this forum would have sniffed out any Sisters material without me having to promote it!

Err .. this thread can probably be locked or left to die now :D

Aye, we'll let you off with a bit of self-promotion. Good work fella. Image
