The Daughters of Bristol

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Happened across a few tunes by them and wondered if any of you lot knew anything about them.
Very contemporary Sisters sound with the vocals along the lines of a Von/Bowie hybrid.

Ta for the heads-up. Always nice to hear some new music.

Here's their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/thedaughtersofbristol
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

So who's taking the p*ss?Most people who have posted seem to rather like them.Personally I think "Take you away" is a brilliant piece of music, but I would agree Daughters of Bristol is a dreadfully contrived attempt at a Sisters of mercy style name. But what's in a name anyway?

Hmm. My musical tastes are about as 'Trad Goth' as they come, but even I find this pretty derivative.

Not bad, just derivative.

Hmmmm....not bad, I'd actually heard them on Myspace a few months ago and had a good laugh at the name! The vocals (especially in the verses) are VERY von-esque.

But the one thing I will give them credit for. Being a regular user of Myspace for promotional purposes, I come across SO MANY bloody people who like "Sisters of Mercy".

At least The Daughters of Bristol have the intelligence and decency to include the "THE"!!!!!!

I started swaying a little 1 minute into "Beyond The Savage Shore". It's a little quiet, but I like it. The Covenant influence is really there.

"Sometimes" is great. Louder, swirly effects.. needs a little work with mixing, and maybe a little more sounds in the high end, but I do like it.

7.5/10 ;D

it's the best this band can sound, i'm afraid... as a Sisters ripoff. I think you could've fooled me with VOYAGE some years ago, saying it's a Sisters b-side.

But unfortunately, i think it's not very good.

I find them a quite nice mix of Eldo, Bowie, and Pete Murphy, especially in "Take You Away". But in the end they come out very Merry Thoughts-esque.

I'm torn between the obviously derivative imagery and the rather good songs. It reminds me of how I felt when I first heard FALAA, but I have a nasty feeling it'll end up like the first time I heard the merry thoughts :von:

The fact that all I've seen of Bristol is grim tower blocks doesn't help the illusion much, either

More seriously, am I being stupid in thinking that "Take You Away" sounds like Romeo Down + Under the Gun with a duet between Marvin Arkham and Black? :urff:

Hated Reign "Sometimes" sounds like Von with a bad cold

Beyond the savage shore just stopped on its own, but that saves the extra wear on my mouse I suppose.

Prefer the Daughters Of Bristol (shame about the name)
Cheers.

On topic: The Daughters of Bristol elicit a very profound 'meh' from me. That's all: meh.

Awful name, puts me in mind of Puddle Of Mudd. Was that band name ever supposed to be taken seriously?
