Gimme, gimme, gimme hentai.
When I was younger I had an obsession with the movie Akira that was borderline insane, haven't really enjoyed anime for five years now.

Very much so a few years back, and started to get back into it recently.
Channel 4 piqued my interest in the early/mid 90's when they showed Akira, Battle Angel Alita, and series like Legend of the Four Kings, Devilman, 3x3 Eyes, Doomed Megalopolis etc.
I've watched Ghost in the Shell 1 & 2 recently, and FilmFour have just finished showing a season of Studio Ghibli films.
My favourite of all time though, is Cybercity Oedo 808.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is great fun. It's kinda like the bible with robots and stuff.
I liked Hellsing too, but havn't seen all of that yet.

I start and end at Battle of the Planets.
Cracking late 70s/early 80s TV series. I woulda been maybe 9 ish. Apparently it's on DVD, but I won't get it cos it'll probably turn out to have actually been crap all along.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

What's the diff between anime (Akira, Crying Freeman) and animation (Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner)? I've never understood the difference.

animation, aka cartoons, are the tradicional occidental animation.EvilBastard wrote:What's the diff between anime (Akira, Crying Freeman) and animation (Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner)? I've never understood the difference.
anime is (specifically) the japanese animation.
the main difference is their aesthetics. (take a detailed look at the character designs from both styles and you'll get the difference. the drawing style is very distinct)
I hope I made the difference clear to you.
ps: oh, and hello everybody, this is my first post.

Still reckon Wile E Coyote could take Akira, though...

Battle of the Planets was a hacked up and re-edited version of the Japanese anime series Kagaku ninja tai Gatchaman ("Science ninja team Gatchaman"). Certain elements, like the robot 7-Zark-7, were added to appeal to a US audience and to bulk out the running time that had been reduced due to other stuff being edited out. I've only seen a few episodes of the Japanese original, but it was (arguably) more adult - certainly more violent, and featured a transexual / hermaphrodite main villain.
I'll shut up now...
Edit: Oh, and one of the main characters, Jason ('Condor Joe' in the Japanese version), actually died at the end of the original anime series, after getting shrapnel lodged in his brain! Not really one for the kiddies...

There can be only one.....Marine Boy.
'Its Marine Boy, Brave and Free!
Fighting evil 'neath the sea.
He is a boy, a very special boy
Powered by Propeller Shoes, flying Sub Ahoy!
Whooshing through the water on a friendly dolphin's back
Racing to the rescue of victims of attack.
In a flash, he'll foil the foe
With a quick boomarang throw!
Loyal friend of the sea to the end
Is our Marine Boy.'

I thought I was the only person in the world who remembered Marine Boy.
