CD-R-s

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Hi mates, could somebody give me a suggestion?
As some of you already know, sometimes I use to copy some of my CD-s for good people. And I always wish they were happy to get them, that's why I use only branded CD-R-s.
Well, one day I went to a shop and asked 10 Sony CD-R-s. But a salesman asked why did I need them and after knowing I'd like to copy audio CD-s he suggested me Sentinel CD-R-s.
He said Sony ones are not so good as Sentinel ones.
He told that their of Sentinel lifetime will be longer.
(He told about 100 years but, to be true, he didn't look like he was so old himself :) )
What do you think about it?
I havn't heard anything about Sentinel before and I still bought the Sony CD-R-s.
But I'd like to use the best CD-R-s for copying CD-s to good people.

I usually get branded ones, but generally I go by the feel of the disc. If the disc feels "fat" then I'm usually happy with it. If the disc feels "thin" then I usually don't bother. I don't know how scientific that is! At the moment I am using a Canadian brand which seem very good called Century Concept Digital.

The only discs I have had problems with were Imation ones and some unbranded ones I bought a while back.

I almost only use Verbatim disks, so far they seem to work.

They also have a lifetime warranty.

I disk with a label that comes from a "good" company, unlike the crappy no name silver disks that stop working the second you put them anywhere near a CD-ROM drive

I know this is the wrong thread - but I am sure that "Sentinel" is something to do with the "Matrix"!

On the subject of CD-R's - I use Imation - they work 80-90% of the time!
Please avoid "Traxdata" - I had nothing but problems with them - also blank - non branded CD's are best avoided!

As a general rule of thumb - alongs with the Fat/Thin scientific approach - Hold the prospective CD up to a strong light source - if you can see clearly through it - its not a good idea to use it!

Besides - I heard a rumour that most cd-r's are produced by Kodak - they being one of the main media producers in the world!

The best way I think is to buy one and trying record something on this. If it's Ok, buy 10 or 20. Of course don't wait 100 years during this test to check longlife :wink:

"Sentinel" is from the Matrix...but as for CD-R's...who knows?...it could be that the guy in the store was on a bonus for selling them...

as for named CD-R's and crappy ones...Imation are OK...i've not had any problems with them myself...Mr Data (Asda/Walmart brand) i buy for my kids to use...

generally though i'll buy what ever is on offer in my local Morrisons store...usually Imation or Maxell...

Sony...TDK...and Kodak are generally the same...so i'll go with the rumour

I tend to find that TDK CD-R74 REFLEX ULTRA seem to be a pretty solid disk. The ones I use are only 650MB/74 min, but that's more than enough for me at the moment.

Tango down, matey, comes from the brilliant, and latest installment of the rainbow six series, Raven Shield, written by tom clancy, developed by red storm, and played by god, aparently.

you play a special ops team, well, it get's a bit complicated, as you can run up to 3 teams all in the same action, with setting go codes and markers and stuff, proper SAS storming of the embassy kinda thing, you can go through the window as the computer team follows your orders and goes through the door.

a tango is a bad guy, 'tango down' is what your spotter says as the said bad guy crumples to the floor due to the bullet you carefully inserted into his temple from 100 mtrs.
