Steve "croc" Irwin killed

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Saw it on the news this morning.
I visited his zoo twice and saw him once over there.

Not every one liked him because of his behaviour but fact is that he did a lot for animals. Ironic that a rather harmless animal (unless provoked) killed him after working with the most dangerous animals for many years.

Sad news.... :(

Oh yeah I saw it this morning and meant to post. Freaky way to go; I'm sure most people expected he'd go out in an animal attack, but a stingray?

From what I've seen of Australia Zoo on TV, the staff there will rally round for his family. I just hope the zoo can survive without the undeniable draw of the man himself.

His wife is a strong woman and I read somewhere once that whenever something would happen to the man, the zoo would stay open.
Dedicated staff indeed. There will be a lot of support for his wife and kids.
His wife is also fond of animals and doing a lot for all the different species. I once saw his daughter petting a giant python. It's in the blood of this family. They won't quit.

I hear that his wife Terri doesn't know yet. Apparently she's hiking in Tasmania and the police haven't been able to catch up with her yet.

It'll come as a shock, not just finding out that her husband's dead, but that the rest of the world heard about it first.

*edit: www.crocodilehunter.com seems to have gone down. Under the weight of people trying to leave goodwill messages perhaps?

*edit again: wiki says Terri has been told.

A croc goes into a shop and asks "Have you got any Steve Erwin skin shoes?".

Sorry I'll get me coat.

I always found the guy very irritating, he always reminded me of Bruce Dickenson from Iron Maiden. It's just a bit of a shock when someone you've always thought of as a complete w*nker dies without having a chance to change his ways.I'm also surprised I've thought about him so much today.

Indeed it will, bit upset I never made the journey to Australia Zoo when I was there last year, but I'm sure it will carry on without him :(

I used to watch his show and always loved his personality and was fascinated by his great love for animals - especially crocodiles. I'll never forget how broken up he was when his oldest croc. passed away. Steve seemed to be such a devoted husband and father too. He will be missed.

having not long returned from Queensland and having visited Australia Zoo...i think the only thing to say is

Crikey

i also am quite supprised at how much i have thought about Steve Irwin today...i hope that his family can morn their loss in peace and dignity away from the cameras

the world is missing a great man who had a passion for wildlife and it preservation...
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light,

Only ever watched his shows very rarely; but he was undoubtedly one of the good guys on this planet, and as such is a great loss.... very sad.

I was always rather miffed by (what seemed to me to be) his lack of respect for the aggression of the animals he was dealing with. They are wild - if they are telling you to f**k off, you should keep your distance.

That said, he did obviously have a great passion for what he did and it's very sad.

Very sad news indeed.
That man is the reason I love reptiles & weird animals.

He's done more in his 44 years than most people would do in 440 years. He'll always be a legend in my eyes.

In other news, Answers In Genesis use Steve Irwin's death as an opportunity to dance on his grave:
Ken Ham wrote:Sadly, Steve Irwin wasn’t a creationist. He mentioned evolution and the concept of millions of years many times in his television programs.
[...]
What does the death of Steve Irwin mean for us? It’s a reminder that we all need to repent of our sin so that we can be saved for eternity

Sick Fück. That's like walking up to his family and saying "Nyaah nyaah nyaah he's in hell now because he wasn't a creationist". And Ken Ham calls himself a Christian?

And what's in the Times today?

An article saying that a tendency towards religion and superstition is an evolutionary trait. How delightfully paradoxical

Today's issue of Hous'd takes the "Mr Chimpy becomes Prince of the Sea Monkeys" storyline to an interesting new twist, in homage to Mr Irwin.

Cheers for the linky though, Mark. Think I'll bookmark that  :urff:

"Over the years, I’ve had people tell me they sent Steve Irwin some of our creation books—who knows if he ever read any of them. At least these AiG supporters tried to witness to this very famous and brave man. Our hearts and prayers go out for his wife (an American, by the way) and their young children."
