I don't want to bore the people around here to death. You all have a job to do, so just a short explanation.Dark wrote:Sorry, but that makes no sense to me whatsoever.canon docre wrote:as long as you dont change the notes, then it's a remix
A remix is an alternative mix of a song, using parts (or all) of the original recording. A cover contains none of the original recording.
A cover with notes that have been changed somewhat is still a cover, surely? Every Sisters cover compilation has contained songs that sound immensely different to the original, but they're certainly not remixes.
Dark, you're completely right, A remix uses parts of the original material, thats why it is a very tricky thing to do. You need to get the allowance of two parties: the songwirter and the Master owner (the people who paid for the recording, usually the record company). But at the end you get your own credt. (see Under the gun, where Eldritch was the remixer)
To be legal, a cover has to contain the exact notes and words of a song. Instrumentation etc can vary of course. Just think if a song would be stripped down to its bare notes on a sheet of paper. Thats what you have to stick to.
It's a grey zone. If you change something you can get sued to hell and back. If the copyright owner is a friendly easygoing chap you might be able to get away with it. (not in our case)

Right, back to work.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.
glad to see a final and definite resource that provides an answer to all out questions
I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects.

Nice cover James
I knew I made it too visible in this edition
But Kirkstall Abbey is fairly recognisable to someone who lives about a mile from it.

I doubt there will ever be a final and definative answer to this one. As canon docre pointed out, it's a very large grey area. A good example of the grey area is The Sisters' version of "Gimme Shelter" (which is classed as a cover even though Andrew changed the order of some of the words) and "Under The Gun" (which is a remix). It all depends upon how far the copyright holder will let you stray from the original before they decide; "Nope, that's a remix."kazamel wrote:glad to see a final and definite resource that provides an answer to all out questions

UTG is someone else's song, face it!

Did he? I don't remember that, but I haven't got all the interviews I collected at the time to hand, nor my UTR's, to verify what was actually said about UTG. Best leave there I think, at least for now anyway.James Blast wrote:too true, but he never claimed that one was his, unlike... fill in the restSyberberg wrote:Erm...so is "Gimmie Shelter".James Blast wrote:UTG is someone else's song, face it!

Update for Crash and Burn.
Drums - Done.
Keyboards - Done.
That just leaves the bass, guitars (plus any overdubs I might think of) and then the vocals.
If all goes according to plan, should have a rough mix ready for Iz to check out by the end of next week.

Working with jost 7 on Summer.
I'm trying to get the midi file from him so I can attach higher quality samples to the song, record a vocal part and then he's having a female voice added into vocals as well for a duet feel from my understanding. Who mixes it is still to be determined.
Unless anyone else has a midi file of Summer(?) I am on stand by until I hear back from him.

Could people post the lyrics that they will be using please (esp. for the ones not on the official site).
what I have for SUMMER:
We're talking at each other
Walking into walls
Waking into wishful
I've heard it all before
Another shade of empty
Another shade of blue
Another shade of yellow, sunset yellow
Another shade of you
Can make it summer
And make it shine
Raining in the doorway
You paint your face once more
Paint the walls away now
I've seen it all before
Another shade of empty
Another shade of blue
Another shade of yellow, sunset yellow
Another shade of you
Can make it summer
And make it shine
We're talking at each other
Walking into walls
Waking into wishful
I've heard it all before
Another shade of empty
Another shade of blue
Another shade of yellow, sunset yellow
Another shade of you
Can make it summer
And make it shine
Raining in the doorway
You paint your face once more
Paint the walls away now

And make it shine

Eldritch used to sing "It will never rain again... SUMMER!" at the very beginning, don't know if you wanna include it.
Yea, Actually like that line - But the version I have doesn't ahve it, anyone point me towards a version that does?
Also Jost 7, who's doing the female vocals is it s forum member?
I'm just waiting on the midi file at this point, I picked up some new slick sample packs I want to try
