Just a short note to those of you who stuff you ipods full of sounds.
If you get asked if you want to download the latest update of itunes (7), don't bother, as it is utter sh*t.
I made the mistake last week & as a result, the wonderfully helpful software also updated my ipod to v1.2 which subsequently crashed it.
Funny (not) that there is no mention of this on their website.

thank for the info
Good luck.
You will need to completely uninstall v7 first or apple won't let you install v6.
Taken me ages, but now seem to have v6 back in place & updater from june for the pod.
Re-stocking the pod as I type.
If this doesn't work, then a hammer is calling to me from the cupboard.

I wouldn't let itunes anywhere near my machine. Every version has been sh1t IMO.
Anapod Explorer for all your ipod needs (lets you copy tunes from ipod to PC, which itunes will never let you do). Full drag 'n drop windows integration, which is all I ask.

Thx Derek.
Might give it a go actually.
I finally (after a lot of bad words etc.) wiped all traces of v7 off my machine (including a sneaky little library file it had created).
Re-installed v 6.0.5.20 + the ipod sw updater from 23/3/2006
Finally I had to eject the f**king pod through the my computer dialogue box & now I can listen to my SOM playlist in the car tomorrow morning.
Need a drink now

even I'm not a fan of iTunes, I waited over a week to install this update (in the wake of past disasters caused iTunes updates) checked two MacUser forums and when I saw no horror stories, went ahead.
Out of all the versions of it I have used this one seems to be a lot cleaner than previous editions.

I use iTunes as Winamp crashes whenever I try adding my music to it Like Winamp somewhat better, though iTunes is quite alright for listening to albums IMO...
Never crashed my iPod though

this as maybe, but despite what people say, I've been using anapodDark wrote:Yep. True.Pista wrote:...itunes...it is utter sh*t.
for awhile, and in the last few months it freezes up while trying to copy
files to my ipod. the latest version has proved consistently unstable
for me. It then started insisting that i had to re-register my copy of
anapod with their website EVERY time I used it. drove me up the wall.
the final straw came this week when I moved house and had no
internet connection. i couldnt connect my device at all, since i
had no internet connection with which to re-register my copy of anapod.
ridiculous.
now back to using older (stable) version of itunes.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the heads up. I'm using iTunes but while travelling seems like a pointless risk to upgrade either iTunes or iPod software, and run the risk of system meltdown while bimbling through China. If it went wrong it'd be a nightmare.
Cheers
