Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.
On Friday, hardline cleric Sheikh Abubakar Hassan Malin told worshippers at his mosque to hunt down and kill whoever offended the Prophet Mohammed.

Anyway - The preacherdicks want to be on the tely, so they make noise. And spam up the news. And yadda yadda yadda, over and over again, if only they get their Airtime so they can go and have a wank on it.

Why doesn't that surprise me.
Of course it is not the solution to put a fatwah on everyone who says something about your religion that you don't like, and I don't condone those who are coming out with that sort of thing for a moment.
But I do think the Pope had to apologise. He is essentially a major world leader, spiritually in charge of 1/6th of the earth's population. The use of that quote, without either qualifying it by commenting on the blood that has been shed over the centuries in the name of his own religion, nor making it clear that his view of Islam and Muhammed were not the same as that of the person he was quoting, was very ill-thought out at best.
Even now, I'm not sure exactly what point he was attempting to make, if not to point an accusatory finger at Islamic zealots. Which could be justified but the fact that he chose to point at the extremists of that particular religion rather than his own (which provides rich pickings, nutcase-wise), or any other, seemed to make a point against Islam. And not a reasoned one, rather using extremely emotive and divisive language.
And Islam is just a little bit of a hot potato at the moment - I don't think the sense many Muslims have of feeling at least under scrutiny, if not overt attack, is entirely paranoia. The reaction of the Western world to the Islamic world since 9/11 has only served to polarise the two worlds even more and create division. This doesn't justify anyone wanting to kill us all, or the Pontiff (even if he is a Nazi and does have the eyes of a killer), but it does put leaders from both sides, political and religious, in the position where they should be trying to ease this tension.
It's a different matter if we talk about some random, secular Danish bloke who's done a few drawings. He was not God's representative on earth for 1 billion people, and I found the reaction to that to be way over the top. If this continues at such a heated level, now that he's apologised, I would think it wrong as well. Though I would like to see the Pope explain more fully what he did mean.

Just a little perspective (that no one will like, I suspect). Also note that military engagements are largely not present in this list. These are civilians, folks

I shall address this directly on the forum. This is a thread about a major issue in our world today. It should be conducted as a discussion and an argument, not a personal mud-slinging match. Why did you feel the need to make this point to me in private?
Your opinions may be met with howls of derision, as may mine. The solution is to either refine them or attempt to argue them more forcefully, not to resort to behind-the-scenes sniping. It's exactly the kind of childish - in fact, trollish - behaviour that one expects from someone who has a poor argument, and I have no time for it.
In response to the point which I think Sultan is attempting to make...
I have stated several times in my previous posts - I DO NOT, repeat DO NOT condone the actions of these people. I doubt that there is a single perpetrator of the acts you have listed who I would think utterly justified in what they have done. There, is that black and white enough?
However, the fact that there is no equivalent list of "terrorist" atrocities carried out recently by catholics is virtually meaningless, and proves nothing except an inability on your part to take into account the myriad of other variables in this situation.
I'm tempted to go into them in another lengthy post but really, what's the point. You appear to possess the same mindset as your enemy - you have the stark truth, everything else is just skimmed over as an inconvenience. What do you even have to say about the deaths inflicted by your own army - the thousands of lost lives which aren't even deemed worthy to be collated into a list?

The fact of the matter is that religious fundamentalism is on the increase among both muslims and christians. And while the fundamentalist muslims in charge of Al-Qaeeda are scary enough, I personally find the fundamentalist christians in charge of the USA more frightening. These are, after all, people who believe that they are living in the "end times" as described in (their interpretation of) Revelation and have the means to bring about the end of our world...
Under neither side do peace and free thought have much of a chance.

Claire, don´t take every iraqi death victim as "killed by Uncle Sam". the iraq-thingy has turned into an ethincal massacre quite a while ago. The conflict has been smouldering under the surface for a long time, only held down by Saddams´ murderous regime, witch was also one of the main factors for its appearance. Taking Saddam out of power was a good idea. Doing it by means of the military was stupid. The CIA,FBI,MI5 or whoever could be in charge ought to have supported iraqi resistance. This would have caused civil outrages of a much lesser scale.

I guess you could call the fact that the old crazy pope ort the new somewhat younger crazy pope tell the people in the world they can't use any condoms, thus spreading the aids virus like running hell as good a terrorist attack as using a bomb. Just takes a bit longer before they die
But hey, I'm just a bloody Belgium ain't I

Too true. Rat poison usually kills slowly, as rats send the lowest ranking members of their group to eat first and wait to see if it survives.
A dissease like aids is a great weapon against infidels that won´t pay teir backshish to the church.

Well, hey, the more Catholic souls in heaven the better, right? It doesn't matter if they have a shît time here on Earth, just as long as they're born.

Never mind eh? Why should we let awkward little facts get in the way of blanket generalizations,
hysteria and polemics? And I'm not talking about the Muslim chappie..."
I'm sorry that I confused your friendly banter for sarcasm.
And if you would have paid closer attention you'd find your smart arsed comment was way off target. No one cares if "Mugabe is actually Swedish". It does not matter or have anything to do with what the fool said in the video!

Sultans post was so on target that I did not want to distract from, but let it punctuate the point. And once again as in my first example you have resorted to name calling and slandering remarks. May I say take along look at your responses before you spit them in the face of others.

Once again you know me better than I do. Seems to me that "You have the stark truth" on any and everyone who posts and dose not see eye to eye with you. You are the pot calling the kettle black.

I find it interesting that you think a number on a personally sponsored web page is equal to the atrocities in Sultans list.
And let me say I do not believe it is ok that thousands of innocents have died what ever the cause.
>You were saying?
I will say that I could have been a smart ass and taken your attacking comments to heart and fired back with hate. But that is not what I am about. I do not dislike you nor will I continue to argue with you.
I hope you have a wonderful day.
