Severely OT - BLACKWELL OUT!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

One of the worst performances I've ever seen at Elland Road, and given the s**t we've had to put up with in the last few years that's going some.

Alan Curbishley; only you can save us now!

From the Leeds United web site:

Kevin Blackwell

The board of Leeds United have today terminated the contract of manager Kevin Blackwell.

The club would like to place on record its thanks to Kevin for the work he has put in over the last three-and-a-half years, the past two-and-a-half of which were as manager.

No further comment will be made at this time.

And the Fans thoughts?

I'm in two minds. He inherited a club in free fall, steadied it with virtually no resources and got it going in the right direction. That said Im not sure he's the man to take it on to a higher level. However, though he's had some more money to 'play' with of late it's nothing to really assess him on in that respect as it's not been enough to secure the services of 'good' players.

Here's hoping Leeds don't get them selves on the "Manager Round About" like HEARTS seem to be on

I'm relieved that he's gone - but wonder how much Bates' hand has been forced by the (relative) suprise dismissal of Robson earlier in the week from a team doing much better then Leeds United. Had he someone in mind for the future and then had to act quick in order to secure his services..?

Anyway, I genuinely feel for Blackwell. I think he'd taken us as far as he could - though his team selections sometimes didn't help please the natives. I've stated elsewhere I feel if any players can look him in the eye on the way out, they've a severe case of Brassneck, as it's them that have ultimately got him the sack.

Personally I'm with the majority and would like to see Curbishley up here, though with a crap wage and no money (or again, has Mad Ken been keeping some up his sleeve..?), I can't see us as an attractive proposition for someone who could walk into a Premiership job. Failing that, Keegan would get a buzz going again and loads of 4-3 results. But for anyone who isn't a Leeds fan, you cannot understand the resentment at Wise's name being mentioned - urrggh

Thanks for everything, Kevin - but I think your time had come :(

Time to go.

After stumbling into the play off's last season, it all went to pot, and the stats for the last 20 or so league games are dreadful. A goal every 1.5 matches, a win every 4-5 matches, and don't even mention the play off final!

The bottom line is we will be bottom of the league on Saturday night, if QPR get a point against Hull, and we lose to Brum. We were hoping for promotion this season, and find ourselves looking at the arse end of the table.

Yes, we were in financial meltdown when he took the job, put presumably he was well aware of that? Managers don't usually get much time these days, and after two years, we are in our lowest league position for over 20 years.

As for who's the best man to replace him.....I haven't got a clue.
Give me one good reason

The Best One. I'd prefer not to recruit Wise, but if he can do a job at Elland Road, so be it. Anyone who takes the job will know the current plight etc. and be under no illusions as to how big a job it is. I'll still stick with Curbishley, but have seen Kaiser Chiefs at 1/1000 and Cantona at 1/250

It's never dull being a Leeds fan. Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea etc. can all wrangle about at the top of a predicatable League (sorry Pompey - but enjoy it while you can), while Leeds continue to go up and down like a brides' drawers
