I really feel for the bloke, but it has to be said, it was bound to happen sooner or later. He was lucky to get away with just whiplash when he turned that van over in the last series; when it comes down to it, they're journalists, not professional drivers (apart from presumably The Stig).
I'm not saying he deserved it by any stretch. Get well Hamster.

Glad he didn't turn out to be the next croc hunter....
He's also the Brainiac Guy, and I was just wondering the other day in which programme it would go wrong. Seems it's Top Gear...
Sincerely hoping he recovers tho.... very nice feller...

Ouch
But, as Mark said, he's no pro driver, thus such things are possible. I remember a bit from Clarkson's book where he said he didn't want to overdo things as he knew his capabilities were only limited. Seemed they were busy forgetting this for a while.
Hope he'll come through!

I do actually find this quite sad, being an avid Top Gear watcher
I heard on the news this morning that a doctor said that he should make a "good recovery" - not a full one then?

Is it sad that I know him mainly from Time Commanders?

It's an ill wind...
Hamster's family asked that rather than sending flowers or cards, wellwishers should donate to Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which was probably instrumental in saving his life.
They have raised £160,000+ so far.

Not bad
Boy, That´s sad news! Best wishes to him..
As mark said, it had to happen some day.
Maybe they should abandon Top Gear and start a top cooking show, tose loonys would still make it something special. (On a second thought: They´d still make potentialy harmfull, I guess. They may as well just sit in the cars, drive them and tell about it.)
By the way: The Stig..
A skinny guy who you never hear talk and who always appears incognito?
Very ish..

I was rather thinking of things like "The Fugu Challenge" or "How to recognize mushrooms".
But accidental infernos could be part of that, too.
