6music playing a live sisters gig

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Certainly hope it's Peel. I've been actively campaigning for 6music to dig these out of the archives.

Fingers crossed.

i hope its the "john peel" show sessions they use - only 4 tracks but the raw power and energy in those songs is amazing - i've just listened to them now and its the best version of "good things" i've ever heard! incredible, and much better than the one which does the rounds usually! :)

bring it on! :von:

Ok so it's probably gonna be a session, but has anyone heard the show? Does the DJ talk all over the tracks or will we hear them uninterrupted?

I'll be recording the broadcast anyway, if someone wants a copy on CDR just let me know. I hope there's no yattering all over the tracks too, but it would be good to finally hear them in stereo. I just hope it isn't Wake...

You tend to get 6music trails between tracks during the headline act (easily edited out with soundforge), maybe once or twice during the set. Sisters are 2nd on the bill so should go uninterrupted.

Just wish 6music broadcast higher than 128kbps on dab since I'll be ripping this to mp3. Might even make a recording from digital cable and see which sounds better.

Sorry if this is old news but if you're keen to get a recording of the Peel/Jensen sessions skip over to

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sistersrarities5/ (Peel '82)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sistersrarities6/ (Jensen '83)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sistersrarities7/ (Peel '84)

The songs are in full with no DJ-jabber.

Continued thanks to Michael for the time he puts into compiling these (and other) collections.

Theyre not complete though. Some of them fade out early. For example I have a recording of one of the sessions repeated on the Janice Long Show in 1987 and one song was around 45 seconds longer than the version in common circulation.

I'm recording it via satellite, some digital radio stations came with the TV package and luckily that's one of them. Which means I'm going to be videoing the radio... :?

Anyway, as well as backing it up that way, I'm also going to be feeding it straight from the digibox into an audio CD recorder. (Is anyone following this? I know, I should get out more..)

I'm then going to take the CD back to the computer to convert it to mp3s, and upload hem to my Yahoo groups. However, the file size limit there means I can end up having to encode them at almost pointlessly low bitrates. QB, if you like, I could also encode them at high bitrates and drop them into your place if you don't mind. I know it's dedicated to the videos at the moment (which I downloaded from you, cheers!) so that's up to you really :)

I already mentioned this in the yahoo group months ago, but there's a program called HJsplit which allows you to split a file info several smaller parts, and then after downloading the same program is used to recombine the files.
Using that method people have uploaded huge mpegs to yahoo briefcases.

HJsplit is a great idea. I've used it before and it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Let's get all those rarities uploaded at super-high bitrates :)
