Media Alert - Marx interview in Friday's Guardian

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Dave also did the article for the Eve's Keepsakes collection. I think he also writes for Uncut magazine.

Just stole a copy from reception at work and not only is there a full page article but there is a Floodland era picture of Von on the cover. It lists Amphetamine Logic as one of the 5 goth classics.
This stark, driving track defines the Sisters' oeuvre and sums up Andrew Eldritch's cod-vampiric lifestyle: "Nothing but the knife to live for."
(See Lee's comments in the lyrics section.

That's not too bad. But I find that last sentence very amusing :
Blue Sunshine by the Glove has been reissued by Universal.

If there is one album that is in no way goth in all this article, it really is this one !

I understand you can define goth in many ways, but if you think Blue sunshine is goth, then everything is goth.

Watta goth outfit.

I once had the pleasure to hear some Kate Bush at a goth party. Does that make her goth ? :innocent:

Read it just now. Mildly entertaining and innocently erroneous. Lots of 'vampire' chiches – I'm surprised they didn't hold it for the Hallowe'en special. Shame no heartland plug, or perhaps I missed it.

The trouble with mainstream hacks is that they spend much of their wordcount making self-indulgent jokes about the subject matter instead of really trying to get to grips with it. There are flashes of insight in this piece, but he doesn't really explain the allure of the Sisters or explain why there's at least one goth girl in every town in western Europe.

There you go.

It's one of life's sweet ironies that vampires (thin, pallid, interesting, attractive "creatures of the night") are generally obsessed over by people who are anything but thin, pallid, interesting, attractive "creatures of the night"...

Not all that impressed, really. Since when did the adjective "eldritch" mean "wizard"? According to the Oxford Dictionary of English it means "weird and sinister or ghostly". Besides which, I always thought Andrew's choice had more to do with the Philip K. Dick novel "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch".

I also don't remember anyone other than Eldritch and Hussey wearing hats. Confusion with The Nephs perchance?

All in all...thanks for the link Eric, saves me wasting 60p on it.

Oh and btw, who said the star from the head & star logo was a pentacle ?

I'm wearing that very t-shirt right now, and I don't think it has anything to do with black magic.

Do they even have an idea what a red star means ?

It doesn't even look like a pentacle. :innocent:

Judging by the article that jay linked to, "savagely edited" is an understatement.

Mind you, The Guardian is part of the mainstream media, so no wonder they don't appreciate non-conformist sub-cultures and have an inbuilt tendancy to want to derride them.

Shame. but that's the way it goes. I suppose it gives a nice overview, although the general tenure of 'g*** is back' is a bit tiresome. It has a nice few soundbites. Maybe Dave can supply the original article and we can judge by ourselves?

Very nice to see Walking on Your Hands in the Top 5 Goth classics, as it is indeed a cracking tune.
