What hi-fi equipment do you have? AKA Currently listening on

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours...

Amp: Sharp (can't remember model number) 40W
I semi-regret buying this, it's not quite as good as the Cambridge Audio amp I traded in for it. Even if it does have a remote control and two tape loops.

CD: Kenwood 200-disc multi-selector
For the lazy music-lover; stick your favourite 200 CDs in and never have to change a disc again.

Turntable: A cacky little Goodmans one I bought for £50 (ish)
Not bad though; I've never felt the need to upgrade it. It has its own built-in phono pre-amp, which is nice.

DVD/HD recorder: LiteOn this one
Which doubles up as a CD recorder. Very handy for copying Sisters tapes to CD (see below)

Cassette deck: A second hand Yamaha model that's older than God's donkey.
I picked it up second hand for about a tenner. Mainly used for copying old Sisters bootleg tapes onto digital media ;) It's the mutt's nuts for a tape deck though; all the 'dobly' noise reductions you could want, bells and whistles and hundreds of flashing LEDs on the front (probably betraying its circa 1984 vintage  )

VCR: Some Chinese piece of sh*t from Dixon's for £25 shortly before they stopped selling them. My old one died

Minidisc recorder: Sony -- not 100% what model
It's similar to this one. I hardly use it any more. Going on eBay soon...

All hooked together with Cambridge Audio interconnects.

Oh and I nearly forgot my speakers: Gale Gold Monitors
Except mine are Mark I and black not beech. Biwired, natch, with some seriously chunky cable.

Next planned upgrade: If I flog off the MD recorder and current amp, I can get me one of these bad boys

Amp : Denon PMA-655R

Image

CD player : Denon DCD-685 (which means I only need one remote ;D)

Image

Turntable : Denon DP-29F (because I was happy with the other two)

Image

No cassette deck at the moment.

DVD player : some Samsung, nothing spectacular.

VCR : some cheap but still stereo thingy. It's quite good.

A Panasonic portable MD recorder from 2000.

Speakers : JM Lab Chorus 706 S

Image

They're good. Great stuff for rock & roll music. 8)

I've got a programmable multi-remote. It's the size of a brick and eats batteries though :(

Yeah, mine's stereo (and hooked in through the amp)

I called it a piece of sh*t, but it works, and that's all you need innit?

I've got an Onkyo TX904, apparently dates back to '91 and it's absolutely ace. According to the internet it's 60W at 8 Ohm continuous and 120W at 4 Ohm, all I know is I can't turn the volume up halfway before it switches itself off to save the speakers  Whenever I get the money I'll replace it by an Onkyo surround Amp I think, love it :notworthy:

The speakers are Rock Solid Sounds, 150W (6, but only four connected) but apparently the company's long gone because I can't find any other info about it anywhere. These are the ones anyway :) Great sound, loud, though according to one of my mates 'a bit nasal', whatever

So far for the stuff I got for free as it's my parents' old stuff.

Then there's my tt340 Marantz turntable which I got for €25 at a 'KringloopCentrum'. My CD is an ancient Sony discman but as I'm not using it that often I'm not replacing it yet, think I'd go for a changer and preferably one that does DVDs as well if I'd replace it.

On my PC I'm using Cambridge Soundworks speakers (2.1), no complaints about those, portable music is an iPod Photo 30GB with brand new Koss in-ear headphones, absolutely lovely stuff though I can't hear a thing from the outside world anymore when I've got them on

i'm sure we did this before and to my shame nothing's changed, except for my rotating three near-blunt stylii in my:

record deck: numark (400 i think)
amp: yamaha 300w something or other (if i remember correctly either mr blast or burn has the same model)
cd player: near-terminal thingummy-jig that i was found in a skip
speakers: 2 x80w panasonic (also out of a skip but in perfect order)
1 x 70w technics
1 x 100w hitachi full-range

all given to me or found and actually loud as fuck. no tape deck at the minute but while we're on the subject of freebies i got a brand spanking new panasonic dvd recorder (minus remote) from the tip for nothing the other week...some people must have more money than sense.

 Well okay then Mark if you say it like that!

I've got a charming compact Sony - PMC-D407L Personal component system, with an active super woofer system and one cassette deck (for those old cassettes) and it's silver and shiny.

Sometimes I do irritate my neighbours too!

Source: currently Samsung DVDHD950
Well spec.d & the sound absolutely stopped me in my tracks when I heard it.

Turntable: Between turntables currently, but looking at Pro-ject debut range.

Amps (music): 2 x Aura PA 200 in bridged mode, each one driving....

Speakers: B&W Nautilus 805 on bespoke B&W stands

Amp (cinema) : Denon AV1706 driving the 805's for L/R & Warefdale WH2 centre & rears.
Another surprise purchase & worth the money.

Was considering a subwoofer, but not really convinced I need it.
The Sammy & Denon combo do really dig deep, so I'll let my downstairs neighbour have a stay of execution for now.

Van den hul cables (those Belgians get everywherehuh?) with Ixos interconnects
Cheers.

Currently? A pair of Goodmans Active 70s coming out of an Edirol UA-20 with a pair of beyerdynamic DT 231 Galatic headphones sitting unused.

In 2 hours? I'll give you the spec when I'm sitting there, because I really can't remember. And if this becomes a dick-size contest, I'll plug into dad's elitist naim audiophile setup :innocent::lol:

No way ! My dad regularly buys a monthly classical music / hi-fi equipment magazine. I do think my stuff's quite okay, but the things you see !
Now if you want speakers more expensive than my car... (and I mean when it was brand new) That's a very humbling experience.

Aye, some of it's quite obscene. Dad's is nowhere near that range, but he spends ages tweaking it and messing about to get the most out of it. It's surprising how much difference seemingly ridiculous changes can make.

Mine is a no name14w compact sereo with a record player on top.
Tape and CD player have allready gone, but it still is good as an amplyfier for the PC.
The interesting bit are the 5.1 Speakers that give a nice sound, and will also do so with my old Saba Stereo amp I inherited from my father. No idea about it´s output, but I remember it was gorgeously sounding and LOUD!
My neighbours will love it.

I have an Alba system with fairly small speakers. Got it for a fiver at a car-boot sale from a guy clearing out his recently-dead mother's house. She never used it, so..

I'm satisfied.
