What hi-fi equipment do you have? AKA Currently listening on

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

An History of Blast's Towers of Rock now follows:

When we die, they say all our previous... I'd like it to be record players, music machines. If you will:

1. a 14" semi cardboard box with one speaker. Made by Bush, it smelled as it warmed up too.
2. a Murphy stereo, two speakers!
3. a bAmstrad 10W amp (with Loudness switch), Garrard turntable and a pair of Wharfedale white (with rounded corners) speakers, Hannimex 8-Track player
4. Goodmans Mezzo SL speakers*, Sansui 30W amp (with Loudness switch)
5. Sony 30W amp (with actual wood panels, groovy, but no Loudness switch), Technics ST 7200 Tuner*, Wharfedale top loading chromdioxid + Dolby B tape deck
6. Technics 50W amp (with Loudness switch), Technics top loading chromdioxid + Dolby B tape deck
7. Technics front loading tape deck, chromdioxid + Dolby B
years pass
8. Technics 20W amp (I was skint and the old one blew up when I tried to play my bass through it) worst amp I ever owned, Technics Dolby B + C tape deck*
9. Kenwood 60W valve amp* (beautiful sound, I still have it plugged into the TV/Cable set-up), Denon CD player (lasted 6 years and died)
10. Sony 3-Head Dolby S tape deck (Fuct! or when it feels like working)*
11. Yamaha Turbo Nutter Bastard! 150W amp*
12. Marantz CD-63 (donated by Yoon)
13. all this is augmented by a pair of Goodmans car speakers and another pair of JVCs bought off a former mate for twenty five quid

* = still used to this day and Very Happy :D

blimey, that feels good getting all that out

Bury me deep.

you do realise Pat will win on the turntable front, dontcha? ;D

The speakers are very much my weak link - a set of cheap budget speakers (Mordaunt Short MS10i) left over from a time when the rest of my kit was at that price level. The only reason I haven't upgraded is cos they still do sound fine enough and I've had awful times with speakers in the past.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

My gear is nearly all Sony, although not current models apart from the DVD players. Does the job in a small house.

Sony 330 Amp
Sony 530 MD (Silver although I'm thinking of getting the spray paint out!)
Sony 330 (Basic but solid) CD player
Sony 435 Twin Cassette Deck (not used in years)
Pioneer CD Writer
Aiwa turntable (due for replacement with a decent one)
Sony DVP-NS29 R2 DVD player x2 (one for the bedroom)
Mitsubishi Multi Region DVD player
Sony 495 (?) AV Receiver
Ariston MX05 monitor speakers x 4, Gale Centre & Acoustic Solutions sub woofer
Acoustic Solutions Tower Speakers

All of which are covered up until the lounge is done! So I'm stuck with the PC, crappy little mp3 player from argos (what do you expect, something good from there?) and a portable Sony Net MD for music. And the clock radio.

As for 4 miles of cables behind, sounds about right. Then there are the AV cables for the PC which is on a wired network...

Btw, speaking of which. I visited a hifi store in Hamburg last summer (on my way to Hildesheim) and the store owner said he had sold equipment to Von in the early 90s. 8)
