Techy Help/Recommendations needed!

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Hi everyone,

I've give my old pc to my new father in law is it's faster and more modern than the machine they're using at the moment. For reasons I forget my pc has Norton for my anti virus / firewall type needs. I was wondering if some kind soul could suggest the best free internet safely applications out there so I could collect them together for them to install.

Thanking muchly in advance

Michael

Seek a little through the General Chat archive, you´ll find loads of threads that reply..
Antivir Personal edition used to do a good job for me.
Better idea: Get Linux!
James Blast suggests: Get a Mac!

My system works flawless with...

1. Lavasoft AdAware
2. AVG Antivirus
3. ToniArts EasyCleaner

And ONLY those...

Oh, and Firefox, although it tends to freeze a LOT the last couple of weeks... :urff:

Heard that the AVG is rather good.

Myself I use Norton because Symantec is my employer :innocent:

And do you write viruses for them? :innocent:

Me, I use a standard AVG/ZoneLabs/AdAware setup. I'm tempted to use a live Linux for all browsing needs, shut down the network on my Windows installation, and not even bother with a lot of that malarkey - PuppyLinux quite tickles my fancy (cos I like dogs), if I can get it to play nicely with the rest of my kit.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
