I see a black, black planet.

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Breaking news on the BBC: North Korea has just tested a nuclear weapon.

I haven’t been paying too much attention to the news recently what with it all getting me down too much. Can someone explain to me why the hell North Korea is testing nuclear weapons in defiance of international warnings and what all this means? I feel unnerved.

It's a means to prove their power. Nothing more, nothing less.

I would not worry too much about it.

Simple enough. Now Kim has nuclear technology, he can threaten to sell it if the aid money is stopped.

I've just heard that some people (probably in the North Korean army) were already plotting against Kim. A coup might very well be in the making. North Korea is in a total mess, and only the Communist party is happy with the situation. The nuclear bomb is their last resort to prove they're not completely kaput.

Interesting to note China's reported position on the matter:
The US said the reported test was a "provocative act", while China denounced it as "brazen".

In an unusually strong statement against its ally, China expressed its "resolute opposition" to the claimed test and said it "defied the universal opposition of international society".

The same reason everyone gets nuclear weapons - cos they can and they're incredibly politically useful. You get loads of economic goodies too, to stop you using/developing them.

I like it that the US invaded Iraq cos they knew they weren't nuclear but they won't touch N Korea cos they are....

Armys today tend to move into secured areas. First, superiority over the airspace will be taken. Then come the troops. Now that North Korea has the bomb, it has only become more likely that they themselves get hit by one.

First Afghanistan, then Iraq, next Iran, then North Korea.

Can't we just detonate all the nukes already and get the nuclear holocaust over and done with, I'm sick of waiting...

It seems that North Korea's nuclear test was either a failure or a fake: Clicky

This regime is even more pathetic than it seems. They let their own people starve to death, and they're not even able to get a nuclear bomb...

I didn't say it was a reassuring thought though. :?

But then again they were threatening to launch some nuclear missiles/do another test the other day if I'm not mistaken?

As I said before (implicitly), it's all perception, even for this kind of things...
