Sorry, DarkAngel, I'll never give my telly away....
I always wanted to start a band and dress up like the Amish. ACDC's guitar player always reminded me of a little Amish boy in those silly shorts!
Wouldn't it be Amish Unplugged?

Yes, (maybe) some Amish people have Done A Good Thingâ„¢.
This has no bearing whatsoever on the truth or falsity of their religious beliefs.

I agree. But it does show how religion can tranform people and events (in a good way in this example).markfiend wrote:Back to the original point:

And, therefore; sometimes religion can be a very good thing Mark - inspiring great acts of love and kindness.

OK, fine, but for every example of religion "being a good thing", someone is going to throw an Inquisition or some Crusades back at you. It's getting us nowhere.

True happiness should come from inside yourself, and not be reliant on any external crutch. Otherwise you're only fooling yourself.DarkAngel wrote:I think one's happiness affects the quality of one's life.markfiend wrote:Also:George Bernard Shaw wrote:The fact that a believer is happier than a sceptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.
You don't need religion to inspire good deeds either. Anyone is capable of doing Good Stuff if they think and try. So few do, granted, but the religion factor is a strawman in this particular argument.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.
