Geetar tab...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Am at work and am rubbish at tabbing from memory so this might all be bollox but C&B is powerchords: F# F# F# Em F# F# F# G etc for the verse with a picky bit of Em at the end.
Chorus is powerchords again, from 2nd fret - B B B C# D E. Then has a little run back down from the F# Em D on the 9th fret. There's a middle 8 which has F# G then F# and Em.

^ Edited & tidied a bit but still most likely bollox ;)

So, Alister, what's your problem?  ;D

Just finished printing off a load of tabs from the above mentioned sites, tonight will be Time To Rock! :von:

My right hand is good for nothing.
On the subject of Crash & Burn (or not quite related at all you may think)... I'm there yesterday, strumming along to it when BANG! Top string snaps. Annoyed, I put it on the floor to go look for some spare strings. As I did, I thought I'd let my lizard have a run about on the floor (for some reason). Came back in my room to find she had cr@pped all over my guitar!!! Its still stinks. :urff:

And yet you'd use it for fretting and chord changes?

Not sure if this has been mentioned on this forum before but the RIAA (Recording Industry Ass of America) has been going after sites that display tab and the like. That won't stop anyone sending me a PM and asking for what I've got, which is quite a bit...

I tried playing bass left handed. For a laugh. No one else laughed. Come to think of it, I didn't laugh either.

Nothing surprises me about these people anymore. Bloody capitalists.

I think there's reference to it on the BBC News website. Can't recall exactly where I read it now but I'm sure a web search may tell you more.

These RIAA people sicken me. Help someone play a song, you can get done for it and the real crooks get away with all sorts.

Oh, it's just the usual thing. They go after the easy targets, that's all.

Those RIAA cnuts allready gave OLGA (Online guitar archive) the axe. What bites me most is the fact that 90% of those tabs are wrong, they serve mainly as a help to find out how to play a tune.. so they are hardly affected by the actual copyrights?

Un-be-f**king-lievable.

One can only assume that their members and associates have some kind of financial interest in the various rip-off guitar "songbooks" that you can find around. Not only must you listen to the bland rubbish they decide you should listen to, but now you must only play the bland rubbish they decide you can play.

I'd imagine that in the days before the wide availability of pre-recorded music, sales of sheet-music is what kept the music publishers going, so you may be onto something there.

Quite right, sheet music was the income thing many years ago, even up until the mid/late 80's, several chart releases could still be obtained in sheet music form. What does come out nowadays are the so-called Greatest Hits Collections but I don't bother with that stuff anymore. It is the vested interest in the rip off guitar songbooks that was behind the move to take down the tab sites.

Back to Sisters stuff "Published by BMG Music Publishing" or whatever. Has anyone seen any sheet music from the songs that were written by Von or related groups for that matter? I haven't heard of anything but put me right if I'm wrong.

Although I am self taught on guitar and bass, I did pick up a couple of books many moons ago. One being "It's Esay To Play Duran Duran" (please don't laugh at me!!!) and I couldn't beleive the amount of mistakes it contained. Some books had guitar chords, notation for vocals treble and bass clef whilst some had a crude piano line with often incorrect lyrics with a token "Am" chord typed half an inch above the piano line. f**king rip off, real s**t. Cost more than the album if memory serves.

Then again, artists aren't the only ones who get screwed by the music industry, the customer does as well. Remember when CDs and the like cost twice as much in the UK then elsewhere?

I think virtually everyone who has ever tried to teach themselves guitar has bought a couple of books like that. I know I did. And yeah, complete rip-off. :urff:

One way m*****n fans who want to learn their songs is to learn Dead Or Alive and Sisters ones first. Then they won't need to get any m*****n tab as I don't think the m*****n have a single original song in their collection!

It's not just OLGA that have suffered either.

More here.

And then there's this little gem.

But don't worry, the Russians have come to the rescue!

Retrogoth, there was a tab book published for "God's Own Medicine", but it was harder to find than rocking-horse s**t. As far as I know, nothing has ever been published for Sisters songs.

What frightens me is where will it all end. I dread the day where I've got lawyers beating my door down and telling me to turn my music down because "there's a risk that other people could hear it, which would be a violation of the licensing agreement".

This isn't half as silly as it might seem.
