Vision Thing - The Raw And The Cooked

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Which would be quite easy if only he had a copy.

I'll await official confirmation ;)

I saw the TSOM lists of a certain Belgian more than 10 years ago, in which he claimed to have a stack of James Ray vocal versions amongst many other things....

Strange that he should tell such a porkie. I'm pretty sure I still have his old lists somewhere, must drag em out and have another look, see what else doesn't exist :innocent:

as mister ray is a regular visitor to our forum, it shouldn't be too difficult to find out if the story were bogus or not
I like these calm little moments before the storm. It reminds me of Beethoven. Can you hear it? It's like when you put your head to the grass and you can hear the growin' and you can hear the insects.

I've seen the good man's collection once with my own eyes and it doesn't get much better that that. In every closet or cupboard you open, there are tons of (really) strange records, cassettes, pictures, posters etc.
Just to say, I would like to have a look at that list you may have somewhere too   :notworthy:

There's more than one Belgian Sisters collector.

it doesn't matter how many belgian collectors there are. take it from me they won't have the right version. the version the belgian has is well documented, mainly by him, and it isn't that version; that's because that version doesn't exist

Fair enough. So the only version we know to definitely exist is the one that James Ray himself has, somewhere?

this is rumour control, here are the facts.... maybe

I received this info amongst part of a huge list of Sisters items, back in the late 1990s:

-'Hull Fairview Studio July 1986'
The very first This Corrosion demos, made during the writing of the song and meant to be the second Sisterhood single. Engineered by Roy Neave who also did the James Ray first records. Only 1 (!!!) tape is in existing and it comes from a former roommate of James Ray and also includes a by James Ray typed insert paper. Both James Ray and Andrew Pinnell guaranteed me that the tape is genuine and the only existing copy!
this corrosion:1 sung by James Ray
2 sung by James Ray and Andrew Eldritch
3 sung by James Ray
4 duet with Lucas Fox, Andrew Eldritch and James Ray
5 duet with Andrew Eldritch and James Ray
6 sung by Andrew Eldritch
the B-side contains some very rare remixes of 'Mexico Sundown Blues' that are never released and were made on the same date at the same studio!
All 'This Corrosion'-versions are unknown to anybody and in a much heavier style, without female voice. The lyrics are not like the final 'Floodland'-song and most of the 6 demos are unfinished!!
Must be the rarest Sisters-tape ever!

No idea if its true or not, but it all seems abit detailed to be entirely fantastical. (the list also includes dominion porta studio demos & experimental mixes + lucretia acetates, etc).

Question is: IF they are genuine, how do we persuade the owner to weed 'em out? (its the old 'obsessive private collector vs. evangelical music fan' debate yet again!)
Is this the place I used to know as Fatherland?

So good to have you back, lab monkey. love the avatar...

On topic: it'd be a pretty easy thing for anyone who claims to have the JR TC demos to put this question to rest by trading them out or posting snippets. The fact that, after 20 years, not even a snippet had surfaced to the (shrinking) collectors' community is proof, in my opinion, that there is no such thing as the JR vocal demo...I'd loved to be proved wrong.

although i don't have a strong opinion on this, but if the tape resides with only 1 man, it's fairly easy to prevent diffusion. it could even be seen as proof for the story.
