Inspired by Badlanders topic, I ask around which "must-see" cult movies you never fully got.
For me:
Blues Brothers (must be rather a boys thing)
Stalker (should be a masterpiece by Tarkowski, but for me just the most boring movie I've ever seen in the cinema...)
Godfather: and this is very embarrassing, isn't it? I mean everybody must like the Godfather otherwise something is considered very wrong with you. (I heard that the second part is better, but I never took the effort....)
Legendary Cult movies you never got...

Yes! I don't understand what's good about two fat men in sunglasses singing blues songscanon docre wrote:Blues Brothers
Pretty much anything with Woody Allen in it. I know a lot of people like him, and think he's very funny and all, but I just can't BEAR him.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

It took me half a dozen watches of Apocalypse Now to get it.
But I still don't get Easy Rider

I just don't like any movies really. If I tried hard, I might be able to come up with ten films I didn't totally dislike.

I didn't care for those scenes either. What I loved was all the over-the-top, absurd car chases.Yes! I don't understand what's good about two fat men in sunglasses singing blues songs
What's to get? It's just two men travelling across America, seeing it as it is. (even the hippies were fascists, imo, rejecting Hopper's character.)EvilBastard wrote:But I still don't get Easy Rider
He's made some of my favourite movies.Pretty much anything with Woody Allen in it. I know a lot of people like him, and think he's very funny and all, but I just can't BEAR him.
My favourite directors are Cronenberg and Svankmajer, but since this is about cult movies we hate and not like, I'm going to have to say all the Star Wars movies (I know they're not that cultish, but I can't think of any cult movies I dislike at the moment).

Jess, as you know full well, I don't get it. No-one has yet managed to successfully explain what the point of it all is. The original is a masterpiece, so why bother. It's like me releasing a recording of my version of Crash & Burn (okay, bit tooo far there, but you get the point). Sorry Jess. I'd say remakes generally, but The Hills Have Eyes bucks the trend.canon docre wrote:What the f**k? You can't be serious, Dave! Pulp Fiction.
It had some good moments but was most definitely not the work of genius that everyone hailed it as.

Well, ok, so if the premise is that two men went looking for America, and couldn't find it anywhere, that's fine. So is that why they both get blown away by the rednecks at the end? That's the bit I didn't get.nick the stripper wrote:What's to get? It's just two men travelling across America, seeing it as it is.
