Never Land (A Fragment?) [Reissue] - Comments, etc

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. Never Land (full length) - doesn't have the production or extra atmos. of (a fragment), am I disappointed? Well yes but it's still better than most, or am I on 'any scraps from the master's table' mode?

What was your impressio with the original version when you first listened to it? Did it grow on you? Might this one over time?

The non fragment just doesn't have the production. :|

As said elsewhere, Mr E has zero to do with these re-issues. Also, remember what the man said:

So what AE said was at best a slightly misleading implication that anything aside from the final recording/mix is a "demo" and at worst an outright lie.

My "why so cheap Mr. E" refers to the fact he had this 12 min. epic, nay masterpiece, why did he stall at the 3 min. mark?
Nothing to do with WEA finally liberating the glory that it stands at.
I love this recently freed version, but it lacks the production of (a fragment) - a spot of echo and those keyboard tinklings wouldn't have gone amiss. Aren't the restored lyrics a wonder in themself tho? :D

Now we all know how much of a perfectionist he is/was (Vision Thing, how many takes again?), so considering that, if he figured a fragment was better than the full 11 minutes back in the days, it wouldn't have been without reason, and I presume that'd still stand for him.

Just enjoy it, don't complain is what I'd say 8) Not to mention a bit of extra lyrics :D :notworthy:

It might have been down to how much could be fitted onto a side of a record? How much can fit on one side of a 33 1/3 RPM piece of vinyl?

I'll have to listen to the demo version afore I make up my mind. But hearing the 3 minute version makes me want to listen to the whole album again, so in that respect it works :wink: :D

Already discussed this with him. :) Personal tastes I suppose but this version blows me away. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy: I love the extra lyrics and I can now fit the song into the story behind it. Despite knowing the story, I hadn't noticed the relevance of the title but I can be a bit thick sometimes. :oops: It's a rougher mix than 'a fragment' but it's far more complete sounding than the Floodland demos. And James didn't notice that the keyboard tinklings actually do come in towards the end, as well as some cymbals that I rather like. Definitely one to put on repeat..... WAHOO. :D :D :D
