OK, I suppose it's no secret that I'd like to see a box set mopping up the leftovers from the recent reissue bonanza. And with the deletion of SGWBM and ASCOOB, and also a gap in the catalog numbers of the reissues, it's possible that there may be something. Not necessarily a box set now, but it's still interesting to speculate.

So what would you like to see on one? Here's my list. No Sisterhood though, cos Von still owns the rights to them. :(

A Marx era show would definitely be preferable as the DVD element (late 84 when that lineup was at their peak - OH YES!), but I think Wake offers a more realistic prospect.

Some of these have been bouncing around the web and bootlegs of course, hope I haven't missed any out or repeated what others have put. von and the record companies might be sitting on a little goldmine.


Here's a thought about reissues. All the CBS / Sony stuff from Adam Ant was reissued in two stages. The first three albums released seperately then the second stage featured three more, with a box set featuring an additional, exclusive CD. The first three albums fit inside the box set. When EMI re-released the Wonderful album, it was in download only format but had all the B sides and other rare stuff, such as a culled single. MCA could do the same - especially as there was an unreleased album sitting in their vaults. Whilst I dispise the lazy attitude of EMI in this case, that would be an example of a low-risk option to get more Sisters material out there to those of us who want it.

PS - don't forget about the Fairplay4WM program to get rid of the DRM s**t that's out there in cyberspace :innocent:

Bottom line is that something has to be done about the bootlegs (from a beancounter's perspective, of course).

I see them in 2 main classes. Firstly, there's the genuine unreleased stuff, like KOHD, Jolene, Good Things, and so on, that pretty much every serious fan of the band would like to get hold of. Secondly, there's the umpteen alternate takes and live tracks that really only appeal to a certain type of fan.

A box set is the perfect solution to the first type. If it had enough appealing "GIMME!" stuff on it, it would definitely sell well. So come on Rhino - here's an opportunity for us to give you money!

For the second type, Metallica have hit on the perfect solution - just give them away themselves. Our Weeding and Sharing sections fulfil the same role, which is likely why Von (who I am pretty sure absolutely HAS to be aware that they exist) chooses to turn a blind eye. After 20+ years of being bootlegged, there is no way it's going to be stopped, so why not at least ensure that if the band make no money from it, then neither do the bootleggers? (Unless the band are the bootleggers, which is a whole other ballgame).

Anyway, digression over. What I suppose I'm trying to say is that while the various remixes/extended versions and so on would be nice to have, I don't think they should be put on in preference to the more obvious essential material.
