I lost a friend because they were killed by someone, and I don't support the death penalty. Please don't make that baseless presumption that everyone who has lost someone in this way 'obviously' wants the criminal to be executed because it's totally wrong.indy wrote:How can you not agree with the death penalty? everyone knew he needed sorting out! after the first Gulf war he should have been quietly removed from power, not assasinated or anything but just put out of harms way. He was not, US of A neeed HUGE ammounts of oil so they left him in power after liberating Kuwait knowing they would come back another time and feel even more (sanctimoniously) justified at another war!
Along with thousands of others, including muslims and Americans, I was on the anti war march in London, I knew it would do fcuk all good but at least we stood up and got counted.
Remember, this world is run by politics on the surface, but that is all thinly veneered as the REAL control is in the massive companies, be they motor manufacturer (because we ALL need a new car every 2 or 3 years!) or the oil companies (because we've got to run our new vehicles!) or even the pharmacutical giants (you dont have £20k for your treatment? well fcuk off then!)
to date over 2800 American, and 100+ British soldiers have paid the ultimate price for Bush and Bliar's lies!
As in physics, equal and opposite forces etc!
'here's an extreamist, we'll have to be equally (or more!) extreme in the other direction to destroy the threat!

And the Iranians have just come out in agreement that Saddam be executed - nice to see Bush and Ahmadinejad on the same page for once...

I am not saying that everyone that has lost someone wants the criminal to be executed. I am saying your views may change when it's someone close to you. Are you a father? Do you have a daughter or a son?lazarus corporation wrote:I lost a friend because they were killed by someone, and I don't support the death penalty. Yes they do. You have never gone hungry have you? I bet if you were starving and living on the streets you would give it some thought. It happens more than you think because sometimes life doesn't give you an alternative and it's either starve to death on the streets or a warm meal in prison. Ask a police officer they will tell you. It does happen.lazarus corporation wrote:No, they don't.indy wrote:Many peoPple get arrested and go to jail just because it's an easier life.
So what will you do with him? Life in prison. You know damn well that wherever he gets locked up at that there will be some supporters that will do whatever it takes to get him out.lazarus corporation wrote:Because we don't want to be like Saddam.indy wrote:He showed no mercy, why should we.
Of course he may just sit and jail and make 'sad clown paintings' until he dies.
But besides all the bickering and differences what is important is what is best for the people of Iraq and that this whole mess can be sorted and let them get on with their lives, raise children, and get back to normal.

No, I'm not a father. But I've heard fathers whose sons or daughters have been murdered still speak out against the death penalty - like you said, it's a matter of opinion. There is no special insight gained by being in any particular relationship with a murder victim.indy wrote:I am not saying that everyone that has lost someone wants the criminal to be executed. And, yes, I've gone hungry. Why do you keep making presumptions?

And, in order to help that, many Iraqis need answers to questions about what happened to their loved ones who disappeared in Saddam's regime. And those answers will only come by questioning Saddam. Killing him silences him forever, and leaves the survivors of his regime without the answers they so dearly deserve.

Correct me if I meringue, but I'm pretty damn sure he had at least one of his sons killed.DeWinter wrote:I actually felt some mild sympathy for him when pictures of his dead sons were being shown. That can't have been a pleasant experience. Guess now he knows how it feels..

Quite sure he did so as well, and if he didn't he was about to kill another one who then fled abroad (I think it was even the son first in line to succeed him) . If I could try it out without the commitment and could just walk out if I didn't like it then I would be there. I have asked at a few jails if I could just try it but it's not allowed. There would also have to be a clause that I would only be the top person, no bottom for me. And on the bright side I would probably receive lots of oral sex and that I like the sound of ...nice. I will just close my eyes and pretend it's a chick and I guarantee that they wouldn't stop in the middle to cry and whine about how they don't like it.lazarus corporation wrote: With the greatest respect, I bet you won't.
Dont' know....I figured if you hadn't because it sounded like you haven't been there or had to dumpster dive in your life. My bad for assuming.lazarus corporation wrote:

Will Saddam be a top or a bottom? I bet he's a topper to.
Yes, yes.....I see now....put him in prison with a couple of guys named Bubba.
I keep thinking that maybe there should be an easier way like life in prison but a choice to off yourself if you so choose to. Like each prisoner if given a cyanide pill and at any time they could choose the time to end it all. I think that would be fair. Let them choose their own fate.

I am against the death sentence but I can understand he got it in a country where death penalties are given as he is guilty of a lot of crimes but then again...there are more out there who even remain unpunished because the US have no interest.

Yupp. Iran, for example. Wait: Wasn´t there an occasional shooting at the Iran-Iraq border? Some hundred thousand killed? A classic example of peace policy. And we still sit in silent admirance for Saddam´s efforts in returning human rights to Kuwait. A real peace factor. Never mind his sadistic tendencies and his habit to execute opponents personaly. You have to understand that, he just likes playing with guns. And he had a difficult childhood, you know..a.r.kane wrote:Saddam spent 30 yrs keeping the waring factions of the middle east under control,

The AK 47 also isn´t made by Browning, Rheinmetal or Smith&Wesson.a.r.kane wrote:all at the request of the great west who supplied him with everything he needed inorder to do what whatever our great leaders told him to do.
Seconded. They should have gotten rid of him the day the new Iraq republic was anounced. Nobody would have understood that better than Saddam, it´s been his own policy for decades.a.r.kane wrote:The whole trial and outcome is a f**king joke.
Not bloody likely. And what do you mind Kurds? A people that is denied it´s culture, language and country by Arab and Turkmen leaders needs to have it´s voice every now and then, I´d say. After all good ol´ Saddam p*ssed some of them off with Chemical Ali´s special perfume.a.r.kane wrote:He was tried in Iraq by Kurds and was refused permission to use Bush and Rumsfeld as defense witnesses - he would have requested Thatcher and Blair if they had had any awareness of what they have contributed to the state of things.
Which was another of Saddam´s attempts to make friends at europe as to weaken the threat the US-European coallition was placing at him. Another cheap trick by some blerk who wasn´t good enough at using smoke and mirrors to outwit others.a.r.kane wrote:Why was Iraq stormed? Because they chose to deal in petroeuros and not dollars.
Are you naive enough to believe that anybody who owns great amounts of money gives a fu*k what currency he counts them in? The US economy have had a great growth of export due to the weakness of the Dollar, as thus US made goods have become cheaper for others. That´s why Mercedes and Volkswagen moved a couple of thousands of jobs over to the USA.a.r.kane wrote: They were then swiftly followed by the rest of the middle east, then China, then South America, leaving the USA and it's ***************************************(editted*) floundering in international debt that was about to drown them.
Yupp.a.r.kane wrote:It was wrong to invade Iraq but right to kill Saddam!?!
The thing is: There should have been a revolution from within Iraq, Maybe supported by foreign secret services. This probably would have tackled with the problem of different ethnies as they had rather become brothers in arms than enemies. (I know that is archaic and stupid thinking, but I like to quote Ringelnatz here: "Vox populi, vox Rindvieh." ("The public voice talks Bullsh*t"), A large group will tend to agree to the least common denominator.)
Like others here I think that a country which respects human rights must not have death penalty at all. But just as an example, imagine after WWII Adolf Hittler or Goebbels had survived to write memoires in which they would have had the chance to bring on their myths or even, after a 42 year sentence like Rudolf Hess. remind the public of their story. This will destabilize a nation. Especially one in a fragile equilibrium of powers which are only loosely held together by common borders. I remember the walkways and walls of houses got smeared with "Rache für Hess!" ("Revenge for Hess!") a lot when the twit had finally kicked the bucket. Had this been one of the bigger NS leaders, there might have been greater outrages. Them feckin´ nazis never give up..
In the end, humans are naked apes with primitive instincts dominating a lot of their thoughts. And there is an instinct to take revenge. In a civilised and well developed society this influence will be less visible, but in the chaos currently reigning Iraq, those devils dance freely.
This Is due to the coalition handling the job all wrong.
Hitlers army was defeated by forces, but his spirit was defeated by care packages. I Still wonder why there were so few of them for Iraq.
So in whoose lap have you been sitting that you have only first hand information to teach us right? Or did you read newspapers and watch Tv documentaries? Say "Bleat!"..**a.r.kane wrote: It's all f**ked up and you believe it all like a flock of sheep.
Thanks for the instruction, my leader.a.r.kane wrote:Hang em high ! Saddamned to Hell! Go and learn something rather than believing the f**king propaganda from the executioners.
I´ll rely to my own judgement.

If memory serves, when Saddam's palace was raided, the forces find a solid gold AK47 assault riffle in amongst all his possessions. I don't know what is more sick: Saddam owning it or the bastards who built it for him. Would such a weapon be usable - and how many of his starving followers could have eaten with the proceeds of the scrap gold from this obscene weapon?eotunun wrote:You have to understand that, he just likes playing with guns.
