FALAA Reissue - Comments and Thoughts

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. Got my copy of FALAA yesterday (again), listened to it a few times. I'm not sure which mix I prefer but than again, who cares? I got both now!

good to have the b-sides digital now!

The stranger demo is too brilliant. You can really see how it developed to the album track. Vons voice is amazing as ever, the guitar work! I love it!


Nice to hear a rougher version of the song, but it leaves me wanting more...a LOT more.

Have to say that I'm pleased with it over all.
I thought the packaging and liner notes were well done and that at least
some thought had gone into it (which is more than Jungle apparently put
into the new Neph boxed set).

Highlight is, of course, the SKOS demo.

Also found the Strawberry Recording Studios track listing behind the disc
quite interesting.
Seems to be a few songs previously unheard of, though they're
probably just working titles or in-jokes
(the engineer at the studio was probably thinking "If I had a quid for every time somebody wrote "drugs" in the box for the take number").

Slightly off topic - is there a decent review of Floodland yet?

i just received my copies and listened to SKOS early.

i would've paid the price of all three releases to hear that one.

Was afraid a bit of the "unsophistication" of the lyrics, but my god, i was simply...out of my mind, listening to it. i haven't had such an emotional experience because of a song in a long time.

Two very old "new" songs and we get so excited. I guess some of us would go crazy with excitement if we heard that new album at last. Well, I would. And now I'm sure that it really, really wouldn't have to be anything brand new, just studio versions of the songs I've heard before would make me go crazy. :| *sigh*

Another one who likes demo stuff I take it. Goes to show how good von's stuff is when unfinished stuff sounds better than most artists' finished material. You only have to look at the popular charts to see what crap is out there.

I wonder what material was left out, considering that the reissue CD was very close to the 80 minute limit? There's bound to be loads that we haven't heard. Yet.

Addition: i never really cared for Black Planet before, it was never played live and the recording on the cd sounded uninspiring/ed. However, now... It could just as well be the reason i dress in black, to put it bluntly.

As we Dutch people had to wait a bit longer....didn't get me copies of FALAA and Floodland til Thursday. First of all....this mix of FALAA smokes the 1992 remasters big time...and isn't it bloody nice to have some proper cd versions of those tracks we all have tenfold on bootlegs? Long Train....hiss and crackle free......mmmmmmm.... Only downside..SKOS is WAY out of tune....... But hey..hehe

Hello, just got myself the sisters reissues (8 quid each not too steep for a remaster and cool cover) Reading the sleve notes and was wondering if the guy who remastered these was anything to do with the sisters or just another unknown studio engineer? Anyone know?

Absolutely. There's always room for the more populist side of things as well. After all, the very existence of the mass market is precisely what defines the alternative. Plus, teen hormones do need something to give them an outlet. :lol:
