Spam Members Alert!

For you to give feedback to the Heartland moderators. Wish lists, fault reports, etc. You may get an answer, you may not. As in all things, it largely depends on how nicely you ask the people in charge... You're welcome.

Don´t click on the link in that profile, it instantly starts some Java-"Drivecleaner" programme without asking!
A real bastard, that one.

Call me Sisyphus. Another four registered within the past hour. So much for me getting a full lunch today. :urff:

I am going to see what I can do to purge the nonsense users from the database. As it now stands, the ones which we have caught can not post, but they are still listed as members. If a new spammer slips through the cracks and registers, let us know, but for now do not worry about hunting older ones.

Right, done today's I think.

You can take it that I've already noticed any new members that have their location in their profile as BANNED

Just look at the last three pages of the memberlist to see how many spammers there have been recently...

Just my two cents, of course, but maybe it helps if you replace the confirmation code script with a more recent one?

I found one here on the PHPbbHacks site which has been updated recently (November 13 2006).

Just trying to remain one step in front of the bots...:|

That'd be a job for the Quiffmeister. He hasn't trusted us with access to the php "guts" of the site ;)

I'd probably only break something...

As much fun as it is telling these lowlifes to fcuk off, we were advised on the Quark XPress forum not to reply to spam as it registered as a hit, therefore making the site more of a target for future drivel.

I find that higly unlikely, unless you use the URL provided. Then the bot registers on what forums he had the most, if any, hits and would focus next attacks there...

I only reply to the Spam Threads to make it easier to spot them for the mods... if they drift down the board, they are forgotten. But the user will still be clogging the database...

Correct me if I'm wrong, I will cease responding to spam then ;D

Wasn't aimed at you Spamfinder Generals at all, just us reg'lar Joe and Josephine Heartlanders who do love to post abusive replies. I don't even know if it's true, the XPress forum still gets about the same amount of spam (1 every 10+ days) since the no reply tactic was employed. :|
