The main big security holes are Outlook Express and Internet Explorer.
I'd suggest using a different email prog, I recommend Thinderbird, or if you really like OE then go into options and set it to display all emails as text only. Just previewing a html/java-laden email in the preview pane is enough to download and install an exe on your system (I've seen it happen).
For browsing I use Opera, and only use IE for a tiny handful of trusted sites which don't work properly in Opera.

I ran Adaware on my work windows machine earlier today for the first time since January, it only picked up 5 tracking cookies and 1 reg entry. I must be doing something right
