I have been following the Sisters on and off since '83 but have lost track of some of the politics involved.
Just so that I know, can someone explain in words of 1 syllable or less why there has been no new material released for so long ? I know that some of it is to do with East-West but beyond that I know nothing.
NB before I portray the image of an ex-fan hankering back to the glory days I think some of the new stuff played live is superb and stands up in it's own right. I went to the UEA show and thought they were FANTASTIC. True class always shows.
Thanks for bearing with me.
Silly Question but please humour me

Andrew had a dispute with East West (over royalties and promotion?) and went on strike for a few years, he then offered the SSV album as his final piece of work to get out of the contract (SSV is NOT a Sisters album and opinion varies as to how much involvement had with creating it. And it sounds awful as any treble/drums were removed).
Since then (2000 ish?) there has been nothing. We have been promised a few independent singles etc but nothing has arrived. New songs are occasionally being added to the live setlists (e.g. "Still" this year).
Now you know as much as we do! (Although someone may well clarify what I have just written!)
Now feel free to join in with the "Andrew Eldritch is a lazy git" threads.

AE doesn't give us what we want, he gives us what we need. and so far we don't need an album...apparently.Izzy HaveMercy wrote:Cash.tricky1963 wrote:can someone explain in words of 1 syllable or less why there has been no new material released for so long ?

He got lazy, complained about the label, screwed them over so no label wants to TOUCH him or his projects, then takes the high ground and demands £3m for a few new albums. He gets goths buying his old CDs, and then complains that "the money's coming from the wrong people". He's, in short, an ungrateful c**t with his head stuck too far up his own arse.

He thinks record companies are just a bunch of incompetent lazy bastards and there's no way he can get his music to the general public with good promotion, and without being marketed as a trad-goth nostalgia act.
If you can't get it done properly, then why bother ?
Truth is, in my darkest moments I tend to agree with him.

2 words, each of 2 syllables, for the reason why the indie singles (at least) weren't released:
Adam Pearson
He basically - in Von's words - "spent a year not recording his guitar part". He apparently put a veto on any of his tracks being made available for download (hence the fact that the only song we have available in decent quality is Susanne). Judging by the official website contents, he took a far more militant and radical stance towards pretty much everything than Von (who I've always suspected of being a big softie at heart) ever did. He was effectively in total control of the Sisters towards the end of his tenure.

If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

If this is true, why did he leave? Perhaps he was a mole all along, sent by Warners to screw Eldritch over in the most personal way...mh wrote: Adam Pearson ... was effectively in total control of the Sisters towards the end of his tenure.
Can someone give me a reference for the "spending a year not recording his guitar part" quote? Never seen that before.

I'm guessing wildly here (and I really am, this isn't an attempt to present secret insider knowledge!) but given how long Adam was around for, I'd say he and Von were good friends in a way that Von probably isn't with the new guys.
I think it's possible that Von very much liked Adam and liked having him around, in a 'proper band' and hence cut him a lot of slack in terms of stuff like this.
The single most significant development in recent sisters history has been the employment of Chris and Ben, because it's been a truly fresh start, not the painful limping of a once promising but now moribund outfit. I'm cynically pretty sure that Von organised the Silver Bullet tour to get as much as he could finanically while also conducting a grand experiment - seeing if it killed the sisters or not. If the tour had been a huge failure with cancelled gigs and as such no chance of any future tour, I think that would have been it for our favourite religious beat combo.
The fact that it wasn't a failure is interesting. Von has options now. Adam probably didn't help matters, but I think friendship and loyalty probably resulted in the sisters being hamstrung for longer than they should have been. Whether anything comes of it or not is another matter.

I don't think Von has been close to any bandmember since the days of Gary Marx and Craig Adams. He learned his lesson the hard way.Arrrgh! wrote:I'm guessing wildly here (and I really am, this isn't an attempt to present secret insider knowledge!) but given how long Adam was around for, I'd say he and Von were good friends in a way that Von probably isn't with the new guys.
Maybe the reason why Adam was in the band for so long was just that he and Von went along well enough musically speaking AND they could stand each other.
Also, Gary said in the HL interview to Quiffy that Von was kind of mellowing with age. Maybe he just didn't feel like sacking bandmembers anymore.
As always, just guessing.

I've known a couple of people with long-term large-scale amphetamine habits, and to be frank, the stuff can have a tendency to loosen a user's grip on reality.
I ain't saying that's what's happened to Andrew, but in conjunction with PiB's post above...
