Hogfather...

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

It's a start... "for the small screen", it states... good enough fer now!

After some really bad-drawn cartoon adaptations ("Wyrd Sisters" and "Soul Music"), a two-part series ("Hogfather")....

.... I can see it right before me now:

SOON COMING TO A CINEMA NEAR YOU:

Terry Pratchett's

"Witches Abroad"

By Peter Jackson, in DTS where available...

We're always ranting on about Terry Pratchett in the "currently reading" thread on GothWeb, Christophe ;)

And they prolly made some silly game about it, yes...

Even a "THUD!" board game ;D

Probably the same, yes. Discworld is a registered trademark.

The music is cool, the drawings are crap... and so are the voices... But Death is soooo cool ;D (can't be bad when a certain mister Kristofferson did the voice-over ;D)

I had a flick through the book accompaniment in Waterstones t'other day. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; if I could date any fictional character, I'd GLADLY ask Susan Sto Helit out for a drink.

Assuming she didn't vapourise me with her icy demeanour first.

Anybody seen this yet?

Opinions...?

I've only seen the intro, plus the first words from Miss Sto Helit, but it looked good.

I watched a bit of it last night, didn't set my world alight, sadly. It may've been the quality of the rip though and I hope to get the HDTV rip soonish.

i watched the 1st espisode and didnt feel the need to watch any more :|

it all felt very much like a BBC christmas panto - poorly scripted, hastily produced and full of in-jokes...

i'm not convinced that pratchett's self-referential "world" and all its in-jokes actually work on-screen as well as they do on paper.

i've read a few discworld books (and some of his other stuff) and enjoyed them very much, but i found the 1st espisode of the hogfather very average, and didnt bother watching any more.

Whereas I thoroughly enjoyed part one. (I downloaded both parts this week and watched the first last night.) Maybe because I already "get" the discworld in-jokes.

I think perhaps the adaptation is more with the "younger viewer" in mind.

I did like that they had Ian Richardson (as Death's voice) say YOU MIGHT THINK THAT BUT I COULDN'T POSSIBLY COMMENT.

Still, if anyone can provide me with a link or something to a decent rip, lemme know.

Time to make a movie, as I said, but PLEASE let mister LotR do it!

He's the only one that made a classic fantasy book WORK on the big screen, IMO.

'Narnia' was utter pish, 'Harry Potter' was fairly decent but still mostly pish, and I don't even wanna START about HHGTTG

On the other hand, the Dark Comic stuff seems to be easier to capture on the silver screen.

I really like the first 'The Crow', 'Sin City' was bloody brilliant, 'Spiderman' was also very good, and I really digged the atmo of 'Spawn', to give a few examples.

'Aeon Flux' was unadaptable for the big screen, IMO, but seeing Charlize Théron hop around with her uber-sexy black hairdo and that SIZZLING leather catsuit was enough to keep me glued to the screen! Image
