The Merry Thoughts

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I haven't heard them, but something tells me the answer is "the soul".
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

Oh, wait. There's some white-on-white text there... kinda in a similar vein to the German Bit in Marian...

My favourite TMT story was from HLer AndyTheGoth (much missed) who said that he'd seen them, gone up to "Marvin Arkham" to say "Thanks for carrying on where Eldritch left off" then was surprised when M.A. stropped off in a huff.

I remember thinking, when I first heard Psychocult by them, that it could well have been the album that "vision thing" wasn't(i.e.the follow up to Floodland we all wanted).
But on repeated listens,as canon docre says,it misses those certain somethings that all the crop of continental TSOM clones miss out on.
Originality and uniqueness are two of them.

I liked "Will you?" and had it on repeat for quite some time on my Media Player. I would say what they miss is a decent producer and some originality.
Funny thing is, I've often heard people ask of stuff by Merry Thoughts and Suspiria "Is this the Sisters of Mercy, it sounds just like them!" only to be told sneeringly by Sisters fans that it's "g*th rubbish". I don't think the Sisters fans in that instance quite understand what they've just said by extension..

I was treated to them at Casa di Semple recently.

Oh how we laughed!

There is one song, the Sun and the Rainfall I think it is, that doesn't make me roll on the floor in hysterics, but that's just because a line from it was quoted to me in a certain context once.
Other than that, ha ha ha and hee hee hee, that's all I have to say about them

Well, the Sun and the Rainfall is DM cover so of course it's a good tune :D

Actually I think TMT have made some really good songs, Second Generation, Pale Empress etc, at least if you compare them with sh*te like Love Like Blood, Garden of Delight...

Absolutely worth listening to but as already said they don't have "the nerve" that Sisters do..

One of the worst, most boring, derivative bands I've ever heard (or looked at, heh); their music has no balls. As if that weren't enough, they've got the sort of lyrics that sound as though they were written by a particularly dim/borderline retarded teenager. It would be best if they would simply...stop.

And what kind of place would this be happening in I wonder?A place that Sisters fans go to that plays The merry thoughts and Suspiria?Sounds suspiciously like a Goth club to me.
Another strange conundrum for all those "Anti goth Sisters fans"-Unless you want to hear TOL 92 trawled out,the only places that are likely still to be playing The sisters of mercy are goth clubs. How very odd, then, that these goth clubs contain Goths and play "Goth rubbish".
The World is a strange, confusing and complex place at times.
And Suspiria sounding like The Girls?I think they sound more Al Jolson than Eldritch myself.

And before you start,I love Suspiria. So p*ss off!

I'm not really sure what irks me more at places like the Devonshire Arms, the "I'm not a goth" Eldritch copyists with their permanently affixed shades and sneers, the goth'n'prouders who crossed the sublime-ridiculous border by a mile, or the HIM fans who have pinched their mums fishnets and eyeliner and gape with ill-concealed horror at finding out what actual goths look like..
I dunno about Suspiria, though. We all know goth vocals fall into three categories, the Eldritch drone, the Hussey wail, and the rarer McCoy growl, I'd say they deffo fall into the first.
