Sisters genre

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Erm, wasn´t it Electronic Beat Music?
At least I´m sure it was when the term was introduced 15 years ago..

Most people say Electronic Body Music, AFAIK, so I guess that's the one...

EBM = Electronic Body Music (not even a genre but a invention of the band Front 242, they described there music this way and since then all copycats use the name EBM  )

Sisters:
I’m not good in naming genres but just as in the above example The Sisters First & last & always was a blueprint for all the Gothic rock bands around. (I like the genre so I’m not complaining about this one  )
Floodland = ? no idea but no one has attempt to copy it that I’m aware of :P
Vision thing = maybe early rock based Nu metal? :P

Most synth goth bands have tried to copy Floodland.

Stop Stop. This is going to get silly.

The Sisters of Mercy are a Gothic Rock band.

They helped invent the genre, they can't escape it.

FALAA and pre FALAA was pure undiluted Goth.
Floodland was a template for a new and bombastic Gothic Rock.
Vision thing, by merit of the drum machine, vocals, lyrics and over all feel is also a Gothic Rock album, easily. Even if it does lack on twangy geetar bits.

*sigh*

Sorry about that, but I had to let it out.

Electronic Body Music is entirely different, a sort of industrial/synthpop/dark techno fusion. As far as I'm aware the sisters didn't really touch any of these particular styles.

Who wants to talk about futurepop?

EBM is Techno for girls.

And the Sisters of mercy are Post-punk alternative dark rock BTW.

Or Gothic rock for short

Er Floodland and the The gift could be described as having aspects of those genres and was certainly instrumental in bringing industrial/synthpop into the, previously, guitar based goth scene.

listen to DAF first

"Flood I" sounds for me like Front 242
i mean, in the part, no copying etc., don't p*ss me off

'dark' is a too goth word
Andrew even refused to get interviewed by Russian magazine "Dark City"
i'd better say gloomy or mopey
but this definition is quite exact
or '80s cold rock'
goes for all those so called 'goth' bands using chorus, delay, much reverb and so on

I always thought about the Sissies as a 'new wave band'.

Simple as that. Next to The Cure and Siouxsie.
