The Best Cover Version (poll) on BBC Radio 6-

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

So.. because someone on the m*****n site is doing exactly what we're doing here, they're disqualified?

To play Devil's Advocate for a moment...

I can see why the Beeb is a bit upset about it and has disqualified Like A Hurricane as the votes for it aren't being based on the cover, but on the band. Which is fair enough.

What we're doing here is discussing which Sisters' cover is their best in our opinions rather than going: "They've got The Sisters' cover of Emma up, let's all vote for that so we can get our beloved band heard on the radio again", or the offical site doing the same thing.

Back to the questin at hand though...

I can easily pick which of The Sisters' covers I think is their worst: 1969. It just doesn't move me, it's as if there's something missing.

As for the best....difficult one that. I can't decide between Emma and Gimme Shelter.
I don't necessarily agree with everything I think.

I also voted for "you've lost that loving feeling" by the human league.

Its one of the most wonderful covers I've heard.

1 - The Sisters Of Mercy - Emma
2 - The God Machine - All My Colours
3 - Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Live)

Worst Cover : The Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb.
They're also suggesting uploading vids from listeners doing their own covers. Too bad we can't send in all of the 'Next One' songs with a self made vid.
Wouldn't that send a shockwave through the Beeb... ;D

I think the BBC are wankers.
Whatever you think of the Mish and Like a hurricane at least people still care enough to vote for them.
Typical of the BBC.When were the girls last on TOTP2 then? When it was Patti morrison's birthday a few years ago they showed The Sisters playing Temple of love 92 FFS  What can you expect? Its So easy to confuse Ofrah Hazza with Patti, especially if its the same people that got Jocky and Jacky Wilson mixed up
I think everyone on here should agree on one of TSOM's covers and all vote for it.That would f**k the wankers up good and proper!

Like a Hurricane seems like an odd choice for the band, seeing as it's clearly worse than the original or any of the various live versions by Neil Young. A good cover should improve on the song, such as:

Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watch Tower
Guns N Roses - Live and Let Die
SOM - Emma

If I were going to pick a cover song by THAT band, it would have to be Wishing Well, and it certainly shouldn't be making a list of top cover songs ever.

But G&R's Live & Let Die is utter bollox.

Mind you, it was an improvement on the original I suppose
Cheers.

I am with you as far as Emma and Nouvelle Marian are concerned.
Also have a strong urge to vote for the Mish - Hurricane thing as a crap cover.

I recently heard John Cale's version, and I think it's even better. :notworthy:
Too bad the original was recorded in the 80s : the production and especially the gooey keyboards make me sick. :urff:

In no particular order, in my opinion, best cover songs that come to mind are:

Gimme Shelter by the Sisters
Sympathy for the Devil by Tiamat
Stripped by Rammstein

Terrible cover - Sanitarium by Limp Bizkit.

This would be why I heard the Sisters version of Emma on the radio the other morning then... followed by The Damned doing Eloise.
It was quite strange hearing that on the radio all these years later.

Hey, I voted that too!
On a side note, to me the best TSOM cover is Jolene in the way it differs from the original and adds something to it.
