A (Dominion) Question

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Forgive me if this one has been asked before, but I have to teach in an hour and I can't be arsed to search....

So, I read Heartland everyday, and enjoy the banter and the bits of new info that sometimes crop up. I also get the Dominion emails, which, invariably, contain regurgitated Heartland gossip, people slagging each other off for dumb reasons and complaints that Heartland is crap.

I assume something happened when the Heartland posse left the Dominionites, but why so much bad blood on their side. As far as I can tell everyone over here is completely indifferent to the Dominion crowd.

As I said, apologies if this is an oft tackled subject.

I don't think it's as bad as it sometimes seems. There's just one or two people who seem (I don't know why) to have some sort of axe to grind against us. I suspect that some people on dominion might make things look worse by sock puppetry.

Quiffy told us about Heartland's genesis a while ago. HL and Dominion serve slightly different purposes, with HL having a more community feeling. But there's no hard feeling whatsoever between the two, no competition, no rivalry... Maybe some issues between people but that's all. Don't ask me to elaborate, it's merely a guess.

I personally find Dominion quite boring but that's just me. :|

To be fair, Dominion has at times been an excellent forum for discussion of the Sisters. bat has always done a great job of running the list; it just comes down to the fact that different people prefer different media for discussion of the band, and in the case of the Sisters it appears that heartland has, on balance, the lion's share of the audience. So it goes. Some of us follow and post to both.

I would say--and this isn't really supposed to be inflammatory, although it's not going to come across well-- that Dominion is a little ahead of Heartland when it comes to the real in-depth discussions of lyrics (which I know isn't everyone's primary interest, and that's just fine). And there are the occasional postings--and posters--on Dominion that do make it invaluable.

Of course, my fondness for the list might stem a wee bit from the fact that it was the medium through which my girlfriend and I first made contact. As the line goes, ten years and counting...

Heartland is mentioned in the booklet of an official release... :D

I was on Dominion as well. Quite boring and after reading some Anika "posts" I deleted my membership.
But as a medium I do not approve it. Nor do I disapprove it.

Edit: I typed the name to see if that certain name would be regarded as swearing...

Always thought it was a bit odd how Dominion is mentioned & not H/land too. The fact that Andy, Chris & Ben (& probably Nurse too) all know about this place makes it even stranger. :? Probably just a case of not being bothered to update the site, wouldn't be a surprise would it.

For what its worth, I was on Dominion before I knew about Heartland.
The inane ramblings bored the hell out of me.

Well, yeah but that wasn't an release that Mr. E approved (and I know since I'm his neighbor) so I'd say Domino - Heartland 1- 0

(but the game's not over yet)

I guess as long as we keep the weeding section open, HL will never get mentioned on the official site. So be it. :von:

eh, you use a reference to Heartland to prove your point? That's like saying: "Yeah, Heartland is much better because many people said
so a long time ago!"

i didnt mean my response above to sound flippant or dismissive.

kafka's post above has a lot of truth about it, and i stand by everything i wrote here.

dominion was "here" well before heartland. actually, i'm pretty sure it was here well before the internet was even capable of running web message boards  :notworthy:

there's room on the world for both - each has a purpose and serves it well.

its all about choice... :D

My feeling about this place that I share with many others....

I was on Dominion back in 91, when it was the only way to get any kind of regular updated news and discussion (well before the internet as we know it even existed), and have been sporadically off and on again since. I reckon it's just a case of it being a different medium for different folks, with Dominion catering better for people who prefer to have the info coming to them without any interaction required on their part.

Which one I think is best is, of course, purerly a matter of my own personal opinion.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

After a day corrupting the youth of Amerika I come back to see what's happened....

thanks for all the posts, it's interesting to read different ideas. I guess I enjoy the fact that on HL seems less one dimensional and there's more a feeling of communication than on Dominion.

Either that or Annnikkka's opinions on the world made me scream...
