wrong speed/pitch

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

now listening to "Disguised in Black" bootleg
tried to play Walk Away along with record and found out that it's overpitched - one step
the song starts from Bb instead of A
and that bug was on some other bootlegs, too (detected with the same method)
i suppose that the master tape was played on the wrong speed while being copied

Possibly. Also, songs are sometimes transposed intentionally when played live to make them easier to play / not require retuning of strings.

Motz is right on both counts. I don't know what date that boot is, but if it stems from the 80's or 90's, chances are that people recorded gigs with cassette tapes and those of us who still remember those days know how much of a pain it was when we transferred tapes for each other. Almost all consumer tape decks have differences in playing/recording speed. Tone junkies may be right about 'analog warmth', but thank heavens those 'tapes don't play the same speed' days are well and truly over!

You also get tape-stretch (which is nice)

Shit they may be, but they'll outlive many home-made cdr's.
