Bloc Party

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Never really understood the attraction of Silent Alarm but The Prayer is a different matter. It's been permenantly on my internal jukebox for the last week. :?

Strangely enough, I was quite a fan of Silent Alarm, but feel that The Prayer is a prime example of indie-band-disappearing-up-their-own-backsides syndrome. ???

Even more strangely enough I didn't even have an opinion on them until I saw them on tv on some session thing a night or two ago.

Saw them doing "The Prayer" and loved it. Have to admit that it quite surprised me as they've not even been on my radar before, good OR bad !

I've not heard the new CD but I did like Silent Alarm.

"The Prayer" is the next offensive by this highly fresh-sounding sparkling band that is Bloc Party.

I like it a lot, the super-nervous drums included.

Am I the only one who immediately had to think about Bowie's 'Earthling' CD, more specifically 'Telling Lies' ?

There was a girl on my course at college 3 years ago who harped on incessantly about how she'd shagged the drummer. She brought in a copy of the NME to point him out to me. This was when she wasn't showing me pictured of Pete Doherty on her mobile phone.

So you'll excuse the kneejerk assumption that they're a bunch of indie-schmindie tosspots...

Isn't Johnny Rev 7.0 our resident Bloc Party guru? :innocent:

John? What do you think to the new material?

I loved the first album, the second album is even better. They've really pushed themselves but still managed to keep it catchy. I ordered my copy from CD-Wow this morning. :)

Saw them live in Bristol last night and they were excellent, top drummer. Catch them if you can.

The academy even has a picture of Von (along with others) in the foyer.
