Now then Heartlanders, I've just got my machine back after a brutal format and reinstall after some nasty visitors sneaked onboard.
Seeings as this machine was second-hand, and unwiped from start, I was playing with fire from the beginning anyway! Now she's back in my possession, I've found out the Sound Card onboard hasn't re-installed, and I have no clue what it is. Windows Update, no go, I've got nothing, nada, zip, zilch. If any of the propellorheads out there can recommend how to track down the drivers for an unknown card, I'd be incredibly impressed and grateful!
Cheers!

I don't know about that, but I think Belarc Advisor will identify the card for you (and if not, it's still sort of handy to have around anyway).

The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside.

Belarc is a good call - other than that, open the machine up and google the manufacturers references on the card itself assuming it is an external card and not part of the on board chip set...sultan2075 wrote:I don't know about that, but I think Belarc Advisor will identify the card for you (and if not, it's still sort of handy to have around anyway).

If it's the on- board sound chip, you could try to look in BIOS and see if it's switched off there. If it is, switch it back on, save and exit to reboot and Bob's your uncle...

Cheers to CellThree, AIDA was legendary and helped me track down the RealTek AC97 controller I needed. Cheers also to Zuma, Sultan, and Ahráyeph for lending a hand!
