Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

I find Voltaire's 'Where's The Girl' quite poignant, for other reasons.
No doubt there are others.
Oof, just heard Def Leppard's 'Hysteria' for the first time in many years. I'd forgotten that it has the same effect on me.
(Note to self - it's been nearly 20 years Steven, get over it FFS )

Bloody oi!
This thread is about whining and self-pity. Take your positive, life-affirming messages elsewhere!
Or, finish that bottle of vodka and come back when you're feeling maudlin.

Don't be sorry.
It was good for me to feel a long dormant emotion awake.
I realise, now, I'm not as dead inside as I thought.

I have to say one thing, after last weekend, about Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Divison.
For a good while now I've found that song really painful to listen to for a number of reasons and memories it conjured up... In spite of the fact that I love Joy Division, a lot of their stuff just cuts too close to the bone. But after having such a fine time as it was being played at JH De Moeve on Sat night it now has a better association for me.
As I was dancing away to it I was thinking this to myself... that song usually does worse than make me cry. But now all it's doing is making me dance.

too true, to you all!
BTW JD's Still live album still does it for me, it just gets deeper and harder and more painful as the gig progresses and then you realise it was their last ever gig. by the time it gets to decades, thats it, im all over the floor!
(does anyone know if there is a longer version than the 11 track vinyl available? id love to hear if there was any more from this gig, ie between 24hrs & transmission?)

i see you sing
i don't need your praise
i need a hand, she said
you said it's worth
all that is mine
prove it, sometimes
under a moon
that shines like it's day
it hangs like a star, somedays
i'm getting blind
i see with your eyes
it's too dark, sometimes
prove it, sometimes
your head in my hands
gets darker than night
it's tearing me down, sometimes
the world's like a friend
i find i can smile
don't say "don't cry"
prove it, sometimes
i see you sing
i don't need your praise
you hold out a hand, she said
you said it's worth
all that is mine
prove it, sometimes
prove it, sometimes
prove it, sometimes
your head in my hands
it's darker than night
it's tearing me down, sometimes

every time i read this thread, these words get me everytime!
simple but non the less it hits the spot and i don't know why for the life of me.
I have that with Eva Cassidy's version of 'Fields of Gold', as I'm sure I already mentioned a few posts back in this thread. I could be all happy and the song comes on and I start balling my eyes out. True story : when I drove home last Friday evening from grocery shopping, a car in front of me had a sticker saying 'Yes, another Eva Cassidy Fan'. I swear, it made me think of her Fields of Gold and I got all teary eyed!
I have to agree with the previous mention of "Emma" - in my case though it's because I lost somebody and a part of my reality (though I'm not saying which) is very similar to part of that fiction.
The original version passed me by somewhat but Vons anguished screams at the end do indeed hit the mark....

I think it's the music and the lyrics combined that makes one's empathy of someone else's emotions and feelings at that given moment where you as a listener can make a link with personal feelings felt before or at one given moment. I have seen this kind of passion on the dance floor, and not only the goth evenings, but the house raves as well as the moments in everyday life when a song is played and just simple eye contact is made with someone else that just loves a certain song because of the emotional value involved...those questions we want answered or just that feeling we get sometimes....
it's all about circles and spirals
that ongoing eternity
